OLFA 60mm Endurance Blade {Giveaway}

I don’t know about you, but I was curious about the OLFA 45mm Endurance blade when it was released last March, but I use a 60mm rotary cutter, so it was mostly just a blip on my radar. I saw people discussing how it worked for them, and I was hopeful that OLFA might extend their product offering to include a 60mm Endurance blade.

Clearly, I am not the only one that was waiting, and I am thrilled to say that the 60mm Endurance blade is pretty darn amazing. OLFA has generously provided me with a 60mm Endurance blade to try and allowed me to give away (2) 60mm Endurance blades; one giveaway will be in association with this blog post (see below) and the second will be given away through my Quilting Jetgirl Instagram account, so be sure to enter in both locations!

My nerdy engineering side really wants to know the differences in alloy between the standard tungsten blades and the endurance blades, but it is a proprietary metal chemistry. The bottom line is: does the Endurance blade really last twice as long?

I have been using the 60mm Endurance blade for one month, and I have to say that I am impressed. I normally have a note on my Quilter’s Planner at the beginning of each month to remind me to dust and oil my sewing machine (if I have not recently) and change my rotary blade. I have no reason to change my blade after one month of use (which is longer than I would use a normal blade), and it is still cutting fabric without any skips or requiring extra pressure.

As far as use during the last month goes, I did a LOT of fabric cutting using the Endurance blade when I created the improv piecing for my Murrina quilt. Improv is quite an intensive cutting process… at least for me, anyway! I also made a mini mini quilt and finished a secret sewing project that is a large lap size quilt along with 2 pillows. That’s a lot of fabric cutting, so I am quite impressed with how the blade edge is holding up.

Do you use a 60mm OLFA rotary cutter like me? I really like the light pressure it takes and how many layers of fabric I can cut with ease using the larger 60mm rotary cutter.

I have rotary cutters in all sizes….sometimes you need the small 18mm and sometimes you just want to go big 😉

  2. Delaine says:

I have never tried a 60mm cutter. I have several 45mm and a couple of the smaller ones. Thanks!

  3. Kathe Gardner says:

I use the 60 for all my fabric cutting – with the other two for miscellaneous cutting (no paper of course) – thanks.

  4. Karen Grant says:

I started with a 45 that came with a basic rotary cutting kit. I upgraded to a 60 with additional safety features. I seem to replace the blade often. Looking forward to checking out an improved blade.

  5. Christine M says:

I’ve used a 60mm to cut fleece but not quilting cotton. I need to try it!

  6. Kathy Lancaster says:

I use both blades depending on what I’m doing, but use the 60mm most often.

  7. ioleenkimmel says:

I have heard good things about this blade. Haven’t tried one as yet but probably will the next time I need one.

  8. Kathy E. says:

45 mm is my go-to, but would love to give the 60 mm a try! Love Olfa brand!

  9. Brenda Ackerman says:

Hello Yvonne; I use the 60mm at my large cutting mat. That is where I cut all of my large cuts of fabric and feel so much more secure in using the larger cutter with cutting more layers and the long lengths also. I also have a small cutting mat beside my sewing machine and use the Olfa 45mm cutter for creating HST and squaring up any blocks and so forth. I would love to win your give away and try out these new blades myself. Thank you for the opportunity! Have a great day!

  10. Marti Meadows says:

I uses my Olfa 45mm the most. However, when cutting 4 more layers out comes the 60mm cutter.

  11. VickiT says:

Yes! I love my Olfa 60mm. I use the one with the squeeze type handle so it closes automatically when I set it down. Before my surgery, I had carpal tunnel in both wrists, using the other 60mm actually caused pain while having to slide the part to close the The squeeze handle didn’t cause that type of pain and it actually felt better for my hands as well. I have an entire collection of Olfa cutters, but tend to reach for my 60mm with that squeeze handle.

I’m glad you posted to show they have the new endurance blades now for that size! That sounds great! Thank you for the post alerting me/us this is now available for the 60mm. And thank you for the chance to win!

  12. I do not use a 60 mm. I have the 45 mm and smaller 25 mm size. I guess I tend to do lots of small, fiddly things, so a small, fiddly cutter makes sense for me. 🙂

I have a 60mm Martelli rotary cutter and I love it, but I bought the wrong size blades. duh! I wonder if this will work with my Martelli? I would love to try it, thanks for the giveaway! 🙂

I use my 60mm rotary cutter when I am cutting strips of fabric or fleece or flannel. The extra width comes in handy during those cutting sessions.

I do usually use my 45mm cutter but it’s one that when you grab the handle the blade extends. I think it’s faster and maybe even safer because I don’t ‘forget’ to close the blade. But I love my 60mm whenever I’m cutting more than 2 or 3 layers of fabric. Would love to give this new endurance blade a good workout.

  16. Deb says:

I find I use my 60mm rotary cutter more and more.

  17. Cassandra D says:

I only use it on occasion.

  18. Genevieve C says:

I have not used one before but would like to. Thanks for the contest good luck everyone 🙂

  19. Kaja says:

I don’t have a 60mm cutter, just because I’ve never thought to buy one. I will definitely go and look for the 45mm version though.

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
