Family Quilting History

In honor of my grandmother’s birthday, I want to take a moment to be thankful for those who have joined me along my quilting journey. So, thank you for reading my blog and participating in the journey with me. I am thankful for my quilting family, and I want to acknowledge my extended internet quilting friends as well – the blogging quilting community is such a source of inspiration, comfort, and joy for me. What are you thankful for today?

Three Flocks {Backing WiP}

On Thursday I was able to sneak in an hour of work on the backing for my Three Flocks quilt top. I am taking the HSTs remaining from the flying geese block construction and putting them together as a stripe to make the center piece for the backing. I have completed sewing together 5 rows (out of 14) of these 4.5″ blocks (they will finish at 4″ square).

2014 Finished Quilts, Quilted Placemats

Parallelogram Placemats {Completed Project}

I was able to finish up the Parallelogram Placemats on Wednesday afternoon. For the quilting, I went with a straight line stitch offset from the main parallelogram column seams. The quilted lines are ~1" apart at the widest. I think the quilting detail and binding really help to frame the tops out nicely. I like that the binding color was included...

Local Fair Wrap-Up

As I have discussed previously, I entered two quilts into a local fair. The fair ended on Sunday evening; apparently the demolition derby Sunday night was a lot of fun. I went and picked up my quilts on Monday afternoon, and I was surprised by several things: I received actual ribbons! I thought I might just get the ribbon stickers. :) I...

But first, let me talk about some more details about the background of this project. With input from me about the amount of fabric required, my customer selected and...

10 Quilty Little Secrets

I decided to jump on the bandwagon and participate in 10 Quilty Little Secrets, a fun post stared by Amy @ 13 Spools. I was actually surprised at how hard it was for me to put together my list! 1. I almost never use pins when piecing. The only exception I can think of in my recent sewing history is...

Three Flocks {WiP}

Just as I was finishing up Orange Crush at the beginning of the week, I started wondering what I would be working on next. I have to admit that I really have a serious crush on this quilt. For whatever reason, orange has been the color of the summer for me. Because I kept finding myself drawn to orange, I decided to really go for it and create an ombre gradient quilt to show off the vibrant color. I chose to follow a...

Orange Crush {Backing}

After making so many drawstring bags, I started itching to work on a quilt project over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, I pulled out Orange Crush. After a lot of back and forth on whether I wanted to add a border to the top or not, I auditioned some Kona White and Kona Bone as a simple border for the top. The pure...
