Rainbow Friendship Bracelets

Wow, it looks like I took an inadvertent break from blogging; my last blog post was 4 weeks ago. Since then I’ve only spent 3 days making more progress quilting my current WIP. Instead, I’ve been focused on lots of different life stuff.

Photograph Yvonne took of the sunset in Pacific Grove, California, in late August.

Pacific Grove Sunset, August 2026

Some of that “stuff” included getting away to the coast for a few days. Pacific Grove is one of our favorite places to visit and walk, and on our walk down to see the sunset one cloudy evening, the sun broke through the clouds and painted the world golden. I was in the right place at the right time!

I’ve been spending long hours sitting in my husband’s office talking about lots of different topics, and to keep my hands busy, I refreshed the rainbow friendship bracelets that I wear on my left wrist. I use 8 strands of embroidery floss and, for the size I need/like, each bracelet is comprised of 1,008 small knots. I can finish a bracelet in about an hour and half.

The new bracelets are bright and vibrant! In the photo above I’m holding 3 of the old 6 that I replaced. The purple and pink version in my palm was the newest of the old batch, and I know it’s at least 2 years old. At least by documenting my new bracelets here on my blog I’ll be able to date them more accurately when I make my next batch.

I have some upcoming travel for work that will continue to disrupt my time in the studio, but I hope I’ll find more time for quilting and have more to share again before the end of the month.

OMG – these totally make me think of my childhood – ha! And it’s so funny as I’ve been working on an embroidery project and realized that I prefer working with pearl cotton and thought to myself “I should make friendship bracelets” and then you post this! Love it!

  2. Sometimes you just need a break from blogging, especially when other things in life take priority. Glad you are back. The sunset is lovely.

  3. How fun! I love those bracelets.

  4. What fun those bracelets are! I, too, am behind…and have a blog post I should have had done days ago….sometimes getting back to it is harder than it should be. I hope you are able to sprinkle some fun in with your work travels. You will get back to the quilting, it is patiently anticipating your return.

A lot of photography is being in the right place at the right time, with a camera! Wonderful photo. Sorry life has been so busy, sometimes the sewing stuff has to take a back seat. At least you had time to do something with needle and thread. Hope life slows down soon.

We lived in PG for 20 years – it truly is like no other place! Miss the fog when we’re having 98 degree mid September weather here in South Florida lol and I miss the otters !

  8. I’m trying to get my brain wrapped around how you can complete a bracelet in an hour and a half! One way or another, they’re lovely and well worth time!

  9. Your bracelets are so cool, but sooooo many knots in one of them, and to make one in an hour and a half is absolutely amazing to me! They are very fun though.
