#2026QuiltingCheckIn Q2

After a very busy Q1, things here had an expected slow down in the second quarter of the year. Life-wise I am still working through a recent (hopefully temporary) hyperthyroidism diagnosis. I experienced a short term hyperthyroidism diagnosis almost exactly 2 years ago, and the symptoms this time have been very, very similar: loss of energy (I need a 1-2 hour nap each afternoon), loss of hair (the amount that comes out with every brush or wash is rather alarming), heat sensitivity, erratic heartbeat, and elevated heart rate to name a few. Between working, napping, and doing my best to continue to exercise/walk outside daily, I haven’t had much extra time lately for doing things I enjoy like quilting. All that said, my symptoms are abating and I am hoping upcoming blood work will have some good news.

Q2 (April – June) 2026 Review

This call to reflection on Q2 from Melanie Meyer is therefore really welcomed and after my review, I’m really happy with what I was able to accomplish in Q2:

An angular, non-rectangular mini quilt finish using gray fabrics and the finished exposed seams technique developed by Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl, made to explore gentle improv curves with the exposed seams technique.

Topsy-Turvy

Topsy-Turvy was an exploration piece into gentle improv curves with the finished exposed seams technique I have been exploring. The mini quilt turned out so well I started in on a larger quilt that I hope to finish and submit to QuiltCon 2027 (Rainbow Improv).

A mini quilt named "Coming Up For Air" that uses an Alison Glass vibrant rainbow colored panel as an inset circle surrounded by a cream print, quilted in a spiral, and bound with another rainbow print.

Coming Up For Air

Coming Up For Air is a fun mini quilt made with a center test block for the Rainbow Improv quilt.

A lined drawstring bag made following the Sotak Handmade tutorial with a Cerise lining and purple with lime green pieced blocks for the outside panels

Lined Drawstring Bag

And I stepped out of my comfort zone to make a lined drawstring bag!

A photograph of a quilt made from the Sequenced quilt pattern by Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl. The quilt has a purple background and red and orange pieces, and the quilt is photographed in front of a lush green background with the text "Sequenced Digital Quilt Pattern" overlaid on top of the image.

Sequenced Digital Quilt Pattern Release

I was able to release my Sequenced quilt pattern. I have a long backlog of other patterns and my current hope is to release 1-2 new patterns a year.

A pink, red, an white heart quilt block, on top of a bright pink background surrounded by other red and pink items like thread, clover clips, and a magnetic pin tray along with a thank you post card.

Heart in a Heart Block

Due to Quilt Mania closing, I shared the free Heart in a Heart block pattern that used to be hosted on their website.

A collage image of different community and charity quilt blocks made by Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl in Q2 of 2026: mini square in square quilt blocks for Mandy Hands and Many Hearts, Building a Village block for Audrey from Cotton and Bourbon, and Mystery Puzzle quilt blocks for Cotton Cuts.

Q2 Charity and Community Blocks

And I made a LOT of charity and community blocks in Q2 (clockwise from the upper left):

All in all, that’s quite a bit of sewing! It feels appropriate that I’m starting Q3 by making more charity blocks for Many Hands and Many Hearts. I’ll be back to share what I make this quarter soon!

  1. Such great projects! I hope your blood work comes out well. I’ve been reading about some huge copyright and publishing problems other designers are having since Quiltmania closed abruptly. I think it is really hard for publishers these days.

  2. Quiltygirl says:

You had an amazing Quarter. Fingers crossed the Symptoms go away and you feel better soon!

  3. aquilterstable says:

You definitely had a productive quarter, even if it didn’t feel like it. Sure hope your health issues are calming down.

  4. Judy Hunt says:

Hope you receive good news. (Maybe POTS?)

  5. Kate says:

I’m sorry you had health issues to fight this quarter. It’s a bummer when you don’t feel well. You still got a lot done in the sewing room. Hopefully you’ve been getting back to normal and back to the sewing room. Happy 4th of July!

  6. Welcome to the linky-up party! Glad you could join. That sounds like a lot of accomplishments. Bummer that you are struggeling health wise. I wish you all the best and keep my fingers crossed that it works out real soon! Happy sewing and good luck with your next quarter. xo Melanie

  7. The thyroid stuff is tricky and I am glad you are working on getting it resolved. I, too, had a slow winter, and I had a medication adjustment and feel more energetic…a good thing. Hope you enjoyed your 4th, ours was quiet as we are travelling at the end of the week…to see old friends.

    1. I find my thyroid levels affect my mood as well, so just want to let you know if you think they do, you are right. Good luck finding the right solutions. And your projects are looking wonderful. Have a lovely day!

  8. All of your projects are amazing. Overall I’d say you had a great quarter despite your setbacks. So sorry to hear of your health issues, Yvonne. I have the opposite thyroid issue and have some of those same symptoms at times. I hope you get yours resolved and your blood work is much better. It can be difficult to regulate.

  9. Elizabeth E. says:

Love this check in! Sometimes when I read people’s line-ups, I am just overwhelmed with Too Much, but as usual, you present your accomplishments in a calm and collected manner. I’m so sorry about the thyroid misbehavior (can I call it that), or Lack of Cooperation? I am hoping that you are getting answers and am hopeful for many days of feeling better. Your projects are inventive and interesting, and oh – so – fun to read about!

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
