In late April of 2020 I was contacted by Quilt Mania and asked to contribute to their solidarity project. This was at the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and they asked that I create a 10″ finished block using primarily red and pink fabrics. I sent them the block which, along with hundreds of other blocks they received, was made into quilts they donated to hospitals. They also shared my instructions for making the block on the Quilt Mania blog. Fast forward a few years, and in April 2024, Quilt Mania closed their doors.

Heart in a Heart Block
Since the instructions are no longer available through Quilt Mania’s blog, which has been taken down, I’m sharing the 5 page PDF with you today!
Planning
The Heart in a Heart block is made using Foundation Paper Piecing. For beginners, detailed paper piecing instructions may be found online on many blogs and YouTube. Each quilter has a different preference on the size of fabric piece relative to the size of the paper pieced section. This pattern calls for slightly generous fabric sizes to accommodate all skill levels.
The Heart in a Heart block pattern contains the templates and instructions to create a 10″ finished (10½” unfinished) block.

Happy piecing!

Thanks Yvonne for the excellent instructions, your generosity is appreciated.
That is a very cool block. It would make a very fun center for a baby quilt. Thank you for sharing.
How nice to have the block available where folks can still access it. Thanks for sharing!
[Did I mention I saw Carol Viellon in France? She looked her gorgeous self, and I didn’t mention at all those terrible days during covid.]
But out of that, came your beautiful heart block! Thank you for your generosity, and for sharing this with us. I like yours because it has “levels” of interest, places for the eye to travel. A true QJGirl design!
Love this block and so sweet that the pattern is back to you and free. So glad to be past the “covid times” but glad for our quilting adventures we had then.
Sew happy to have the pattern and directions for this beautiful heart. Anything with hearts is a winner in my book Truly love what you create, love the preciseness that you do. Many thanks for sharing
Thank you for this pattern. I like PP.
