To close out the 2026 Stay At Home Round Robin (SAHRR) prompts, Anja told us that Round 6 is “quilter’s choice” on Wednesday. I was excited to spend time designing my final top and bottom borders, and jumped right in to my design software (Inkscape) on Wednesday after I wrapped up my work day. Two things surprised me about my final borders for the quilt:
- I added additional 2″ finished (2½” unfinished) spacers before the borders. Not adding this breathing room made the quilt feel heavy and compressed, so the quilt is just a bit taller than I had anticipated.
- Although I tried a lot of curved piecing options, the option I felt closed out the design best was not a curved pieced block!
2026 SAHRR Round 6
I really like the way the quarter log cabins echo the Round 6 arches, and I also really like that there are no points at the edge of the quilt that I will need to worry about preserving after quilting and binding. The best part of this quilt is the “sparkle” I think it has by keeping the lime greens running on a diagonal opposite of the reds. I’m so grateful for the nudge from Sandra at mmmquilts to consider that for the first Round Hourglass border. Continuing the color fade and flow in that rotation for the rest of the quilt has brought me delight each week!
My 2026 SAHRR quilt top finished at 64½” wide by 76½” tall. Even though the quilt is a bit taller than anticipated, I still have plenty of backing fabric. I’m currently thinking I will free motion quilt an all over design (possibly a stipple/meander) using white thread.

The final border design is such a good choice, and I agree that the placement of the lime green definitely makes it sparkle. I’m just so delighted that you joined in with us this year!
Well pshaw, but thanks for the shout-out again Yvonne. :-) My first thought when I saw your finished top was, ‘Wow! It really glows!’ That lime and the yellow with the contrast with the deep oranges is soooo good! I did not notice until you said that there was a 2″ spacer between your rounds 5 and 6, so clearly, the eye approves of the ‘rest’ in that separation. I love, love, the squared arches that echo the earlier ones. What a beautiful surprise of a finish! Isn’t it just such a cool activity in which to participate? You never know what you’re going to get! …box of chocolates allusion intended ;-)

The last border is definitely a winner. You’d never guess that the quilt was designed as you go with limitations on what you could do. The color fade is really cool too. A beautiful SAHRR quilt top.

Yvonne, I am just amazed at your work. I agree that the last round really brings the entire concept to a firm close.
The colors at first were jarring to me , but as it grew, I became invested in the finish. Well done. I might even consider doing a round at another time.

Yeah, okay, I love love this AGAIN! I agree that the bold shapes and colors need spacer bars, and I believe you have the right mix of both. It’s bigger than I thought it would be, but what a terrific quilt it turned out to be. I feel like you pulled in all your talents (color, shape, precision) to yield a successful SAHRR!
