Highland Quilt {Pieced Quilt Top}

Happy New Year! I am really, really happy to say that over the weekend I was able to get the 90″ x 110″ Highland Quilt Top pieced. Whew! I finished piecing the last of the blocks for the center of the quilt on New Year’s Eve, and I used the momentum from finishing the blocks to fully finish the quilt top piecing on Saturday evening.

I usually could get 2 blocks pieced each evening after work, so after my last Highland quilt progress update in early December, I was looking forward to the holiday break to get more time that I would be able to dedicate toward getting the quilt top finished. Thankfully I was able to meet my internal goal of having the quilt top pieced before going back to work today.

With the final borders added, the Highland quilt does not fully fit on my design wall. It is nice to see it “right side up”, even if it does have to drape onto my floor a little bit.

The points in the quilt top do not come together perfectly, but as I keep telling myself, this is not a show quilt. As you probably expected, I did work to fix a few of the points that bothered me the most. I plan to send this out to be longarm quilted, so I’ll be working this week to coordinate that and get the quilt and backing (a Grunge 108″ wide-backing) shipped off.

I got the quilt top pieced just before the first Project Quilting prompt, A Clean Slate, was announced on Sunday. Time to get through my work day so I can get sewing on my first response!

  5. The colors of the greens are so calming and work so well in this design. The movement of the design hides any points that don’t match, in my opinion. I’m excited to see the quilting and the finished quilt!
