I am really struggling with the time change this year. I have always joked with my husband that my inner cave woman is strong. This year my inner cave woman seems determined to shut me down as soon as the sun drops below the horizon, which is making it very difficult to get much of anything done apart from work at the moment.

Highland Test Block Hot Pad – Orange
Thankfully, turning the three Highland test blocks into hot pads this week was something that I could work on a little bit at a time. I finished the orange block / hot pad on Wednesday afternoon.

I was then able to get both teal test blocks quilted on Thursday.

While very similar, the fabric in the center of the teal blocks is different (hooray for using up scraps!).

I had a bit of time on Friday to trim the teal blocks square and get the binding sewn to the front.

And then on Saturday afternoon, my husband and I enjoyed listening to a podcast together (occasionally pausing it so we could discuss) while we both worked on other enjoyable activities. He finished processing the photographs he took in October, and I finished the hand binding on the two teal hot pads.
All three hot pads measure 10½” square, and I suspect these will become gifts.

Weird how we have to struggle sometimes, to do things we actually really enjoy. Hope you feel better as the weeks go by. Meanwhile, These look great!
I’ve found the same problem with this time change. Spring always gives me problems but fall is taking its toll now. I hope I get acclimated soon…and you do too. Those are great hot pads and will make a wonderful gift for anyone.
Oh I hear you… about 8pm I start winding down and my poor husband… hes so confused (I can usually make it till 10:30 pm haha)
Love your hot pads – that is a super cool block! what a great gift!
A great way to turn a test into a useful item. I might have to grab those orphan blocks that just take up space in stash and serve no purpose. One can always use hot pads. And those are lovely ones that can be sat out on display when not in use.
It is hard to feel motivated after work when it’s dark when you get home. It’s easier now that I’m retired, but getting home in the dark is really demotivating. Hope it’s gotten better. The hot pads are really cute.
Hi Yvonne, what a great way to finish test blocks. They look great, so the test was a success, and you got potential gifts!
