It has been a summer with lots of fabric orders for me. In addition to needing several orders to fine tune my fabric selection for the 2718 Quilt, I have been working to refine the fabric selection (thanks to all your wonderful input) for a new quilt for my in-laws. I find colors that can be both warm and cool tones to be tricky to select with online photos only, and the greens this summer have been a bit tricky to pin down.

Highland Quilt Design
As a quick reminder, above is a mockup of the Highland quilt design.

Highland Quilt Alternate Fabric Selection
Here is one possible fabric pull for the quilt; the lightest fabric here is a Tula Pink print that I had high hopes for, but it reads as too yellow-green as compared to the more true green prints for the rest of the quilt.

Highland Quilt Fabric Selection
Above is what I *think* is going to be the final fabric selection for the quilt. From lightest to darkest they are:

Highland Quilt Fabric Selection – Grayscale
I was worried about the value difference between the two lightest prints being too similar, but checking the fabrics in real life with grayscale helps reduce that concern a bit.

Highland Quilt Mockup
But mocking up the quilt design with the actual fabrics has provided me with the biggest peace of mind about this fabric selection. I think it will work!

Highland Quilt Fabric + Binding and Backing
Along the way, I also picked up the binding and backing yardage to round out some fabric orders.
- Binding – Yuletide Green Stars
- Backing – Grunge Basics in Christmas Green (108″ wide backing)

Extra Fabric
Speaking of extra fabric… I liked the binding print enough to pick it up in a few more colorways (Cranberry, Red, and Cream).
Thanks again for all your suggestions and help with green prints earlier this summer. I think it’s time to work on some sample blocks!

I actually prefer the mockup in the actual fabrics—it’s a bit more subtle within the three lights. Gorgeous fabrics and you cannot go wrong with stars!
Looking forward to how this design pans out — bring on the sample blocks!
This quilt will be pretty amazing!
Glad you’ve found a grouping that seems to work. It looks great in the mock-up!
Gosh, what a fun quilt design! Just enough old, and just enough new to really make this a standout. I enjoyed reading your discussion about picking fabrics and colors, especially a challenge now that we pretty much have to order everything online. I much preferred the days of stacking bolts up on the cutting table and seeing how they played together. So congrats on a fine selection!
I love seeing the fabric choices you made for this quilt. It is so great to mock up the entire quilt with the fabrics. It really does give me piece of mind when I can do that. Love seeing your other little add ins, always good to pick up a few extra when shopping!
You found a wonderful color palette. It’s so hard to get the shading right with any monochromatic color project, but your picks look perfect. Happy stitching.
