Effervescence Quilt Along - Organizing Cut Pieces

Effervescence Quilt Along – Organizing Cut Pieces

NOTE: Cutting fabric as you go for each block is not recommended. I highly recommend pre-cutting all your fabric following the cutting instructions to make the most efficient use of your fabric as possible. If you cut as you go, additional fabric will likely be needed: the fabric requirements do not take cutting as you go into account.

With 15 fabrics and 42 unique blocks in the Effervescence quilt, there are a lot of pieces to cut, sort, and keep track of. In order to stay organized for the Effervescence Quilt Along, I have included Fabric Letter/Block Number labels in the pattern and a separate Block Dividers resource. I know it will use a lot of paper (42 pages, to be exact), but I also *highly* recommend printing out the Block Divider PDF pages. At the top of each page, there is a list of each Fabric and piece size needed for each block, so on top of being an organization tool, it is a fantastic way to double check your cut pieces!

Take your time; there is plenty of time to get the cutting complete before we start piecing. There are a lot of fabrics and pieces to organize, and it’s much easier to go slow and follow the organizational process that I outline in the Cutting Instructions email to double check your cut pieces with the block divider pages than to find you are missing a piece or cut a piece to the wrong size later! I personally took 5 days to cut all of my fabric.

Notes:

  1. Even with going slow and taking my time, I still found that I had mis-cut a few Fabric O pieces (I cut them 12″ long instead of 12½” long – oops!!). There should be enough extra fabric for you to use should you identify any mis-cut pieces.
  2. Reserve the remaining fabric for the bonus quilt. Cutting instructions for the extra pieces needed from each fabric in order to piece the bonus quilt will be shared on July 7th.

Perfect timing as the rest of my fabric should arrive today. I very rarely cut out pieces for a whole quilt at the start, but I will definitely take your advice. ;-)

And just like that….I’m behind already. LOL I need to figure out a fabric plan. I need more hours in the day….or win the lottery so I don’t have to work. ☺

Yvonne, I hope you are doing OK with all the fires in CA. I hope Temecula was not adversely affected and all will be well soon

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
