Just before I packed up my studio to move, a friend reached out to ask if I was interested in some of her larger Kona Cotton fabrics. Her stash is pretty much the inverse of mine: she has a beautiful stash of amazing prints. And, clearly, I stash solids. Some of the solids she had were languishing and she needed to make room for what she has that she uses and loves. I was more than happy to help her make some room!

Fabric from a Friend – Kona Cotton
Past Yvonne set me up really well. I am so, so glad that after I received the fabric, I took the time to go through it all. I identified all of the colors using my color card, and I measured all of the cuts. The fabrics at the top of the stack are 1/2 yard, then there are ~2/3 to 3/4 yard cuts, then 1 yard cuts, then a few over a yard, and the bottom is over 2 yards. Do I remember what the color names are? No. But the names and sizes are all written on the selvages, and I plan on (someday soon) incorporating all of the 1 yard and smaller cuts into my stacks of Kona Cotton.
I know there are pros and cons to each solid fabric / fabric manufacturer. Robert Koffman’s Kona Cotton dye lot control isn’t the greatest: if you need a lot of a color, I recommend doing your best to use the color off of one bolt. But, for now, Kona Cotton continues to work well for me because of the sheer number of dye lots they offer.

What a nice gift – Works for both of you! Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving!
Quilting friends are the best!
Good friend! Kona has a great range of colors. My experience is that the fabrics fray a lot. Do you have any tips for handling to avoid the fraying? Thanks!
Wow! What a treat – have fun!
Just delightful. Love that you were able to identify and label them all.
I wish I’d known you two years earlier than I did, because that’s when I destashed my Kona cottons, too. I’m glad they found a great home, as you use solids in such creative and interesting ways in your quilts. I guess this is sort of a good Happy New Home gift, too!
It’s always fun to get an infusion to the stash of fabrics you will use. So many bright and fun colors, that’s like summer in a fabric stack.
Fun to have your stash enhanced by a friend with different color taste. I love it! Enjoy integrating it fully into your stash and projects.
