New Studio - Ironing Station and Fabric Stash

Life Marches On {New Studio Space}

Now that I’m mostly settled in, I wanted to share a few photos of my new studio space with you today. I wavered back and forth on the first big decision, but, because half of my studio is my home office (not featured in this post), I ultimately decided to keep the carpet in the room to help cut down on harsh noises and echoey sounds. After making that choice, the first order of business was having the carpet cleaned.

The second order of business was to refresh the paint in the room. The wall behind my cutting/sewing table was blue, and getting the cutting/sewing table installed was my first priority, so I started there with the paint color that matched the remaining walls of the room. The paint color is Swiss Coffee – do the Swiss put a lot of milk and/or creamer in their coffee (I have pondered that question a lot over the past week)???

My old studio had very, very low ceilings, so I am excited to be able to take advantage of more clearance around the room. Right now that manifests by my ability to hang larger quilts on the wall. Long term I expect it will mean I get to hang more quilts on the wall. Maybe a series of mini quilts is in my future?!

Speaking of hanging quilts, I left the space over my ironing station open so that I can hang Cloudy Night Sky there when it finally comes home after traveling with the QuiltCon 2024 special exhibit (it’s currently in Japan on display; what an awesome journey it’s been on this year!).

Not pictured (because it’s not installed yet) is my design wall, which will be on the wall opposing/across from the wall that my ironing station and cutting/table are against.

My stash looks pretty much the same as it did before, but this time it’s tucked neatly into what would normally be the closet of this room. Clearly, removing the closet doors and letting the rainbow shine was the only right choice.

It feels grounding to have my space set up again, and I am excited knowing it means I’m closer to the next time I turn on my sewing machine!

That looks beautiful! Congratulations on the move, hopefully you are getting completely settled, (both of you) and now I need to start cleaning…

The no closet closet looks pretty with all the lovely colours showing.

  3. Looks like a wonderful new space. Removing the door to the closet got you a practical way to enjoy your fabric rainbow. Is there good natural light in the room?

Your new space is coming together piece by piece just like a quilt:) I have been looking at my quilting room and trying how to re-do it.

What a well organized room. I can’t wait for the day I can do the same. Fantastic job!

Your space is orderly, bright and functional. I do much better having my fabrics in sight….it’s almost like they don’t exist if I can’t readily see them, plus your rainbow stash is beautiful!! I love the way you’ve hung your rotary cutters :)

I see you have your thread up and in color order and your rotary cutters hanging on the wall. It looks like a lovely space and it is nice to see those beautiful wall hangings you have created over the last few years. I look forward to seeing more of your study and reading more about your quilt’s journey.

Your new quilting space looks wonderful. So fresh, clean and organized! I’m experiencing a problem and I didn’t see anywhere else to comment. I’ve been trying to log in to purchase the quilt pattern, Diffraction. It’s telling me I’ve been temporarily blocked. Is your site down for awhile since you were reorganizing?

It looks wonderful. I like that color on your wall. I envy that tall ceiling. I have slanted ceilings in my sewing room. I put together eight 9-cube organizers to hold my fabrics. They fit well below the bend in the wall.

  12. I am glad you have your studio back. It is so beautiful with your great quilts and the high ceilings are really nice. I miss flat walls (we have dormer windows that causes lots of slanty spaces and little wall space). I hope you and your husband are feeling more settled and beginning to feel at home.

  13. Wow – that looks so great. Your color organization is inspiring!

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
