Basting Star Pulse Quilts

I really would like to get both my Star Pulse and the Star Pulse bonus quilt finished this month in time to link up with the Star Pulse quilt along final linkup. The only way out is through, so over the weekend I basted both quilts.

I started small with the Star Pulse bonus quilt. For the backing, I used up the last of the Libs Elliot Phosphor Electric prints I used to piece both Star Pulse quilts to make a pieced backing. But to keep it interesting, I decided to rotate the quilt top on the pieced backing.

As you can see in the detail photo above of the basted and trimmed up bonus quilt, I used up some batting scraps for this quilt, too. I simply butted the trimmed batting edge to edge and used a zigzag stitch on my travel machine (a Viking Emerald 118) to join the pieces together.

The lap size Star Pulse bonus quilt is small (~32″ x 32″), so I still had plenty of basting pins left over to then tackle basting the lap size Star Pulse quilt (~60″ x 60″). I’m using Andover Century Solids in Passion for the backing.

I have a plan for how I want to quilt both quilts, and I should have plenty of time this month to get them both finished. Time to get quilting!

  1. I love the mini! The colors are just so gorgeous together.

Getting them pin basted has to be the biggest chore to get off the list. Looking forward to seeing how you decide to quilt them.

Sweet angle thing on that backing! I like that idea and may have to borrow it from you in the future. Both of these are stunning, and I can’t imagine basting both at once. I also liked seeing how you use the masking-tape-on-the-floor method, although now I’ve switched to a higher surface (countertop, table) as floors and I are not best friends. Congratulations on the progress!

Love the colours! The yellow background on the bonus is amazing. I’m hoping to finish piecing this weekend. fingers crossed xxxxxxx

  6. That is a lot of basting but now you are ready to quilt them. Love the tilted quilt on the backing! It will be fun to see how it looks when all done.

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
