I have been working hard since early July to prepare for my next quilt along, and today I can finally reveal the design and share my throw size sample quilt. I’m pleased to introduce Star Pulse!

Star Pulse – Single Background Throw (60″ x 72″)
I tested the 8 fabric, single background, throw size version of the pattern. The quilt finished at 60″ wide by 72″ tall.

Star Pulse – Quilting in the Sunlight
I really like how the shaft of sunlight falling across Star Pulse in the photo above gives you a glimpse of the quilting texture.
I used a lovely gradient of pink fabrics from Northcott’s Toscana line for the sample quilt. From light to dark, I used:
- 9020-21 (Pinky Swear)
- 9020-23 (Cotton Candy)
- 9020-233 (Bubble Gum)
- 9020-234 (Fuschia)
- 9020-235 (Hibiscus)
- 9020-280 (Plumberry)
- 9020-281 (Roasted Beet)
- 9020-290 (Cabernet)

Star Pulse – Toscana with Color Matched Aurifil Thread
I paired matching 50wt Aurifil thread for my quilting, which consisted of straight line quilting echoes in the central star, stitching in the ditch around each of the other colors, and then free motion quilting loops across the background. From light to dark I used:
- 2410 (Pale Pink)
- 2423 (Baby Pink)
- 2425 (Bright Pink)
- 2530 (Blossom Pink)
- 4020 (Fuchsia)
- 1100 (Red Plum)
- 4030 (Plum)
- 2468 (Dark Wine)
It was during my piecing of Star Pulse that I paused to create my Bonus HSTs tutorial and sizing table. Which means that the quilt along also includes yardage and layout for a bonus quilt that can be made from the Bonus HSTs created during the piecing!

Star Pulse – Throw (Single Background, Multi-Color Background)
Speaking of the quilt along: there are two size options and two colorway options. The largest size option is the throw, and it finishes at 60″ x 72″. It can be made using 8 fabrics, either with a single background (on the left) or with a multi-color background (on the right).

Star Pulse – Lap (Single Background, Multi-Color Background)
Or you can opt for the 6 fabric lap size that finishes at 60″ square. The lap size also has a single background (on the left) or a multi-color background (on the right) option.

Star Pulse – Single Background Throw (60″ x 72″)
I had a great time making my throw size sample of Star Pulse, but I am really looking forward to sewing along with you during the quilt along and making a second version. I plan to make the multi-color background in the lap size using Lib Elliot’s new Phosphor Electric fabrics. I’ll be sharing a LOT more details about the Star Pulse quilt along on Wednesday, November 15th, when pre-sales open.

Gorgeous, and so many options for colour placement.
Pretty quilt and great options.
Oh, Yvonne, it is fabulous!
It’s beautiful and I’m definitely interested in participating in this sew along.
You’ve come up with another fun design. I’m definitely interested, and already starting to think about fabric choices.
I love the reverberating effect from either the narrow strips or colors in this pattern. I am sorry I won’t be sewing along as I am doing at least one other QAL (on the team for Gail’s SAHRR and maybe one other). I am sure this one will be very successful…its a great pattern.
Congrats on your new release!! I’m intrigued by the different versions – size, where the design is ever so slightly different, and with the use of color. It’ll be fun to see the variations made.
Wow wow wow! That is so beautiful! The color gradients are stunning.
A very pretty quilt! Love the throw size sample quilt, design & color.
Both options are beautiful.
That one is really cool looking!!!
What a stunning design, Yvonne!!! I like that you have an option for it to be rectangular, which I find more shaped like a human body, and can be used and gifted more easily.
Beautiful Finish, Yvonne. Love all your pictures, especially the one with matching thread. That one is like you are a Thread Ambassador 🙂
