Cloudy Night Sky - Fabric (Kona Nightfall and Kona Snow) and Thread (50wt Aurifil 2311 and 2785)
Quilts

Cloudy Night Sky {Fabric}

The good news is that not only do I have a rough draft of my next quilt along pattern written, but I also have had time to think about the quilt I want to make in time to submit for consideration to QuiltCon 2024: Cloudy Night Sky. I have been eager to make Cloudy Night Sky since I designed both it and the quilting plan a little over a year ago.

While I have a lot of solids in my stash, the majority of them are 1 yard cuts. Cloudy Night Sky is a two fabric design, so I knew it was likely I was going to need to order fabric for the quilt. Luckily, after I determined the size I wanted to make the quilt (48″ x 60″) and creating the cutting list, I had more than enough Kona Snow in my stash for the design. I decided to use the design name as part of the inspiration for picking the second color, and chose Kona Nightfall.

I cut my Kona color card back in 2017 when there were 303 colors, and since then, many new colors have been added. I decided that with my order that I would also be getting a new Kona color card (365 colors!), and I will probably cut it up at some point in the future, too.

I ordered the Kona Nightfall from Stash Fabrics because they carry all of the Kona colors AND 50wt Aurifil thread. In addition to the Kona Nightfall, I needed more 50wt Aurifil 2311 (Muslin) which color matches well with Kona Snow.

So, now I have a design, fabric, thread, and even a quilting plan all ready to go. I am excited to bring this design to life!

Cloudy Night Sky – Design and Quilting Plan

So, speaking of QuiltCon 2024… I plan to be there on Friday and Saturday. I am registered for one lecture on Saturday morning, but I plan on spending the majority of my time at the show, with the vendors, and getting to visit with quilters in person.

Are you planning to make and submit anything to QuiltCon this year? Is there a chance I might get to see you in person there on Friday or Saturday?

    I love ordering from Stash as well – they always have everything I need! I can’t wait to see this in Raleigh – I will be there as well and would love to get a chance to meet up.

  2. Your design is so you! And I totally see the theme in it. You have it sewn up in no time. I’m sure it will be accepted, and good luck at the show.

    Can’t wait to see the quilt come together – awesome design. And, yes, I’ll be at Quilt Con, lucky me it is one town over!

  6. Another great design, Yvonne. It will be fun to see this one progress. I think it’s time for me to pick up a new Kona Color Card. Stash Fabrics is one of my favorite online shops; I love that they label the solids!

  8. Love this design and it will be fun to see it come to be. Is this also your QAL for next year? I don’t think I will be at Quilt Con…the hotels close by sold out so fast. But, you never know and I will surely let you know if I will be there.
