Diatom QAL {Block #12 & Finishing}

I’m excited that we have made it to the final block release for the Diatom Quilt Along! For Block #12, we will be piecing a Royal Star. If you have already purchased the Diatom Quilt Along, you will receive an email today with the Block #12 instructions. Look for an email from newsletter@quiltingjetgirl.com with the subject Diatom Quilt Along – Block #12. If you haven’t joined in yet, simply purchase the Diatom Quilt Along and I will add you to the email list and get the information out to you soon!

Note: This is my blog post and not the newsletter email with the pattern links. Look for an email from newsletter@quiltingjetgirl.com with the subject Diatom Quilt Along – Block #12 at or after 3:15am Pacific. Check your spam directory if you don’t see the email!

Block 12 – Star Setting Twin, 4 Fabric Version

The Royal Star uses flying geese, half-square triangles, and general piecing techniques.

I’m so proud of you for sticking with this quilt along. It has been such a treat to get to see your blocks being sewn. If you have fallen behind, I get it – life happens and there are more important things than quilting! Just remember that you have until the end of July to piece your blocks together to submit for the final linkup. You can sew the blocks you have made, you can choose to make your quilt smaller and not use all the blocks, and you could sew up 4 of the same block. You are welcome to linkup anything that you have made using the Diatom pattern.

Block 12 - Postage Stamp Setting Throw, FQ Version

Block 12 – Postage Stamp Setting Throw, FQ Version

I did not have any directional prints in my Postage Stamp Setting Throw fat quarters for the Royal Star block. If you do have directional prints, modifying to use stitch and flip flying geese instead of four-at-a-time flying geese will help keep your directional prints oriented.

The released information today also includes Quilt Top Assembly and Quilt Construction instructions. You can read more about some finishing and quilt planning suggestions in my blog post from last week. HollyAnne from String & Story is also going to be creating a blog post with some quilting ideas that I can’t wait to share with you!

Congratulations; you have now received all of the Diatom instructions. I’ll be back on June 23rd with more details about the final linkup. Until then, have fun working on your block(s) and be sure to share photos of your block(s) in the Quilting Jetgirl Facebook group or on social media using the hashtag #DiatomQuiltAlong.

    This has been such a fun project. I’m almost done with block 6. Finishing the last four needs to get bumped up to a higher priority.

  4. Kaja says:

    As always, lovely blocks. I have seen some great versions. Floating around and am looking forward to seeing people’s completed quilts.

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
