Diatom QAL {Block #9}

Don’t tell the other blocks, but Block #9 might just be my favorite (especially in the Star Setting Twin layout)! For Block #9, we will be piecing a Double Sawtooth Star. If you have already purchased the Diatom Quilt Along, you will receive an email today with the Block #9 instructions. Look for an email from newsletter@quiltingjetgirl.com with the subject Diatom Quilt Along – Block #9. If you haven’t joined in yet, simply purchase the Diatom Quilt Along and I will add you to the email list and get the information out to you soon!

Note: This is my blog post and not the newsletter email with the pattern links. Look for an email from newsletter@quiltingjetgirl.com with the subject Diatom Quilt Along – Block #9 at or after 3:15am Pacific. Check your spam directory if you don’t see the email!

Block 9 – Star Setting Twin, 4 Fabric Version

The Double Sawtooth Star uses flying geese and general piecing techniques.

Finishing Piecing Tip: Fold the Double Sawtooth Star block in half and create a small crease at the center of each edge of the block. Use that crease to align the center of your finishing borders.

Block 9 - Postage Stamp Setting Throw, FQ Version

Block 9 – Postage Stamp Setting Throw, FQ Version

I did not have any directional prints in my postage stamp throw version of the Double Sawtooth Star, but if you do, change your method to use stitch and flip flying geese instead of the four-at-a-time method if you are particular about directionality.

We are officially 75% through the quilt along! Be sure to share photos of your block(s) in the Quilting Jetgirl Facebook group or on social media using the hashtag #DiatomQuiltAlong.
