Block 7 - Star Setting Twin, 4 Fabric Version

Block 7 – Star Setting Twin, 4 Fabric Version

The Ohio Star uses hourglass blocks and general piecing techniques.

To make hourglass blocks, the first step is to make untrimmed half-square triangles. Then, we use the untrimmed HSTs to create the hourglass blocks. When marking the diagonal line on the wrong side of one of the untrimmed HSTs, I do not suggest marking the line from corner to corner of the HST. Because the HST is untrimmed, you cannot be sure that the two points are perpendicular to the sewn seam. Instead, I recommend lining up a ruler with the sewn seam and sliding the ruler along the seam until it also intersects with one of the two corners of the untrimmed HST. Then mark the diagonal line. To see photos of this suggestion / tip, be sure to visit my Marking Diagonal Lines for QSTs post.

The Ohio Star block will not need any modifications if you want to fussy cut and work with directional prints.

  1. Another fabulous block! I am ready to finish my 2nd row and begin this block. It will be a bit after Easter as it did not make the sewing bag for this weeks travel.

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
