As part of the What is Love? block collaboration, the designers all tested one another’s blocks. We were paired up to provide feedback for 2 other designers, but there were so many fantastic designs that I kept sewing until I ran out of the fabrics I selected.
In addition, I sewed up 2 more versions of my contribution to the grouping, #CandyHeartLoveBlock, so that I could demonstrate in my sample quilt how the repeat starts to work.

What is Love Quilt Flimsy
And this is what my pieced quilt top looked like on Sunday, January 29th, when the Project Quilting 14.3 prompt was announced. You can see the stacks of fabric cut for Night Garden waiting for me, and I was itching to get this quilt finished. But I took the detour and time to make the 54-40 or Fight inspired finish last week instead.

What is Love Quilt
So, after finishing my Project Quilting 14.3 entry, over the weekend I was able to refocus my attention on finishing up my What is Love sampler quilt, and I’m really happy with how it came together! The quilt is 36″ wide by 44″ tall.
In an unusual turn of events, I’m the one holding up the quilt and my husband snapped the photos of the finish in my studio. The weather here has been very interesting lately (yay for a weekly cycle of rain/snow), and it’s just been too windy for decent outdoor photography. I’m not exactly sure why we reversed roles, but whatever works, right?

What Is Love Quilt
I used a single width of fabric pink solid from my stash for the backing, and I used up the last of the light green print that can also be seen in the quilt top for the binding.

The quilt background is Kona Natural, and I used 50wt Aurifil 2000 (Light Sand) for the piecing and quilting. I opted to free motion quilt loops and hearts in an all over design to help speed the quilt to a finish.

I was really pleased with myself when I was able to quilt a heart inside of the heart in the #HastagLoveBlock. 🙂 Now that I have this quilt finished, I’m ready to jump in and start piecing Night Garden. Hooray!
And since a single row of the #CandyHeartLoveBlock doesn’t really show off the full power of the repeat, I created several mockups of the design in different colorways (above) so that you can get a feel for what the design looks like in its full expanded form.

The What Is Love? free event is open from February 1st through February 14th, so be sure to sign up so you can receive the 15 block designs before the event is over.
It is a lovely sampler and the row of your own blocks look great! xo
I like your row of Candy Heart blocks and think they would make a fun quilt. Could even quilt words in them like the real candy.
What a marvelous finish!
Fantastic finish!
The quilt is lovely. I really enjoy your block and its repeats – what a great baby quilt it would make.
I love this quilt – perfect for the modern baby with so many great blocks. Looking forward to receiving mine.
I opened my email this morning to see your post! I LOVE your block and seeing it in a row like this just grabbed me. So much that I signed up for this event and I have the pattern now. What a fun table runner just that row would make. Time to play with some curves! Thank you so much. Your block is the best of the bunch IMHO.
A beautiful baby quilt. The colors are lovely and the blocks look great in the colors you chose.
Well that came together nicely! Love that you made 3 of your heart blocks to show how they nest!
I love your block and how you combined multiple blocks into one fun What is Love quilt! A full quilt of your blocks is awesome.
Absolutely adore your sampler quilt. I need to get busy on my own. All of the What Is Love blocks are so pretty, I need to decide on a layout.
I like your heart blocks a lot. I think they will look fantastic as a whole quilt but I also really like how they work in the middle of this sampler: their bigger scale and strong repeat hold everything else together beautifully.
Very modern sampler. Looks like some challenging blocks. Great job!
What a gorgeous quilt! All the bright colors and interesting shapes. Thanks for sharing this with TGIFF!
What a fascinating heart block you designed. I LOVE it. Perfect for February.
So it is a darling quilt, and I too love the quilted heart within the heart, but who are you and how did you hijack Yvonne’s blog? I know she works with mostly solids and there are lots of prints here.
But then I look at the Candy Heart design, and I know that it has to be Yvonne. I am very confused.
Kidding aside, kudos to you and have a fun Sunday!
Love your block for this series. I may even venture into curved piecing to make a full quilt of those. Your sample quilt is really cute. What a fun project.
A lovely quilt indeed!
I completely missed the memo on this quilt! Is there a way to access the patterns after the 14th?
