I was asked a really good question on Monday about if the Diatom pattern would lend itself to being modified to be used with AccuQuilt dies. I spent some time that afternoon going through all the instructions in the pattern, and Block 11 is the only block that likely has unusual enough sizing that it might not be realistic to make using AccuQuilt dies.
For anyone else needing alternate cutting help (for whatever reason), you can read through the AccuQuilt Accessibility Information PDF I created for the Diatom QAL here:
Diatom QAL AccuQuilt Accessibility Information PDF
As I have noted in the PDF, I think it would be easy to make a second star block of one of the other versions or choose to make fewer blocks for a slightly smaller finish. If you do cut with AccuQuilt dies and choose to join the quilt along, I would recommend keeping the PDF as a reference as it will hopefully help reduce the time and effort needed to re-design how to make each block work best for you.
I hope this information is helpful for those who need it, please let me know if there is anything else I can do to answer your questions about the Diatom quilt along, and know that I will be happy to help along the way during the quilt along, too!
I’m sure anyone who uses an Accuquilt will certainly appreciate the time you took to do this.
What a great idea!!
I love that you did this, but what a lot of work! I will sometimes go to my accuquilt because I love the accuracy, but other times I just cut as directed. Another thing to think about for this QAL….need to decide on the size first!
Wow! You are so sweet to do this when you have already put so much effort into your book length pattern.
