My husband and I were part of the small team that designed, built, and flight tested the SpaceShipTwo prototype. Eight years ago today, there was an accident during the fourth rocket powered flight test, and SpaceShipTwo crashed, killing the co-pilot, Mike Alsbury. Even though I had left my job 6 months earlier, I still made sure I was there to watch every flight test, and that day 8 years ago is a sharp dividing line of life “before and after”.
This year, my husband and I are starting a new annual tradition. We have decided that October 31st is Friend Appreciation Day. Life is short, and none of us know what the next day, let alone the next hour, truly has in store for us.

What a wonderful idea especially for people like me that are retired. With retirement you lose contact with so many people and after a while of adjustment, you come to want to contact those friends.
