Over the past 4 days there has been a flurry of activity in my studio. A quilt top was pieced; but it wasn’t sewn by me!

Windows – Blocks on the Design Wall
My parents are out visiting, and my mom prepped a baby quilt to sew while she was here with me. She picked out fabric for a baby quilt using the pattern Windows, which is from my friend Cheryl Brickey’s book, Just One Charm Pack Quilts. The blocks came together really quickly and it was fun to get them all up on the design wall.

Windows – Pieced Quilt Top
With my mom sewing, I was bustling back and forth between the cutting mat to square / trim and the ironing board. Let me tell you, having two quilters working like that can make quick work of piecing a quilt top! Windows came together beautifully and it was a lot of fun to chat with my mom and sew.

Windows Quilting Plan
We even sat down together and discussed a quilting plan for Windows. Like me, my mom really loves walking foot quilting. After doodling a few options via Procreate, we settled on a plan that will have a line quilted through the center of each “plus” sign (the center of the windows) and then diagonal lines following the seam lines of the one point squares. We also think a light beige thread is probably the right choice for the quilting. Too bad my mom didn’t bring the backing fabric with her, or we probably would be working on the quilting today. I suppose the last day of our visit can be saved for other things (like baking apple crisp using the fresh apples we purchased from the orchard just down the street).

Mom Sewing
I’m trying to be in the moment during this visit as much as possible, but I’m glad I also thought to take a few photos along the way as well. Having my mom sewing in my studio is a rare treat indeed.
I hope your week is off to a lovely start!
How wonderful to have a mother daughter sewing time. Enjoy her visit! Pretty quilt!
That’s a good choice for a baby quilt & team sewing is a lot of fun. My daughter, sisters, nieces, & I made several baby quilts together. The tops were easily completed in one afternoon with so many of us assembling blocks at the same time.
What a blessing to be able to share this time with your Mom doing something you both love.
You and your mom make a good team – the quilt is lovely with those soft colors! I like the quilting plan, too. Savor those times together; I never got to quilt with my mom, and I’ve always regretted that. I’m glad you snapped photos, too!
That is a cute one! and how fun to have mom there!!!
What a delight, and a pretty quilt too!
How fun! Nice you got the quilt top done together. Enjoy the rest of your visit!
These times are so precious! I love it! The quilt pattern and final result is awesome!
How fun that you’re able to have your mom quilt with you!
Time with our mothers is precious indeed. I’m so glad you got to have such quality (and productive!) time together in your new home and studio!
I’m so glad you got to work on a project with your mom. It is beautiful. I can’t remember if I told you or not, but I am now quilting with my mom once a week.
Beautiful quilt – I love both the pattern and the colors. Wish my mom was around still so she and I could sew together but I’m happy that you can enjoy time with yours. Apple Crisp sounds delicious – especially with a little vanilla ice cream on top!
Beautiful quilt! And how special to share that time with your Mom!
What a fun quilt and fun time to have your Mom sewing with you. I like the quilting pattern, too!
How wonderful to have some sewing time with your mom–I bet you really enjoy having a design wall! My 11-year-old grandson just talked me into buying the Procreate app for my iPad. He said he is taking an online class and will teach me to use it. Fingers crossed. I wish my mother would have enjoyed sewing/quilting/crafting together but it was never her thing. Glad you could share special time with your mom.
How wonderful to have your Mom come visit and to spend some quality time sewing!
