Meringue Bonus Quilt

I am officially distracted by a new idea. As I was piecing together the Meringue quilt, I set aside the large scraps knowing that I would have an opportunity to play with design ideas to create a Meringue bonus quilt. Well, the stack of offcuts was so tempting that I’ve set aside piecing the Meringue quilt and been having some fun thinking about how to use these large scraps.

Meringue Bonus Quilt Pieces

I have (4) Oyster scraps, (16) Mustard scraps, (5) Gold scraps, and (4) Brown scraps. In addition, I have some remaining yardage of Spice that I purchased when a quilt shop near me was closing in 2020.

The first thing I did was make sure that the Kona Spice would work as an acceptable background with the scraps. From there, it was all about trying different layouts and ideas. I gave myself permission to twist and turn and try things over several days, and the design shown here is what evolved as a result. I am naming this design Garden Peony because it’s one large, showy block (just like garden peony flowers are large, showy blossoms).

Now the hard choice: do I finish piecing the Meringue quilt or immediately dive into working on the bonus quilt? I really rarely have multiple projects going at one, but these two seem to want to be made at the same time, so who am I to argue with that?

This is an absolute winner. It’s got that intangible something that makes it a pleasure to look at. Nice job❣️

  2. Haha the squirrels have followed you to Hawaii! You thought you could outsmart them but nope! Personally I just might (if I don’t have a deadline) throw my hands up in the air and say, “Okay okay I see you!” and sew the baby. It’s smaller than Meringue (I think) so it will go faster.

Love your new, inspired design. I’d definitely follow your heart’s desire on what to work on right now!

  4. Hard for me to say…toss a coin and go with the answer!

Had to laugh! I suspect that if it were me, the ‘squirrel’ would probably win! I am looking forward to finding out which project ‘won’ and how you finished them up. I love seeing the awesomeness you seem to do with your quilts!

I love the peony shape–very cool to see how your mind works, once again.

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
