Old School BOM - Finished Quilt
2022 Finished Quilts

Old School BOM {Finished Quilt}

I had a really productive week last week which set me up for finishing up my Old School BOM quilt over the weekend. I’m really amazed that it’s January 3rd and I’m sharing my first quilt finish for the year!

I really like how all the Carolyn Friedlander prints work together in the blocks, and I opted to go for a scrappy binding to finish it off as well.

I used Kona Cotton in Basil for the backing. Because Carolyn’s prints are also Robert Kaufman fabrics, I thought the matching manufacturer was a good idea. As you can see more clearly in this photo, I opted for an all over free motion meander or stipple for the quilting. I used 50wt Aurifil 2600 (Dove) for both the top and bobbin, and the color does a great job of blending into the prints on the front of the quilt.

The quilt finished at ~51″ wide by 71″ tall, but I haven’t washed it yet. I’m really pleased to be able to wrap up a year long block of the month project in such a timely way. I’ll be linking up my finish with Kim from Persimon Dreams, who is hosting a big link up for all the Old School BOM quilts.

I hope your 2022 is off to a great start!

    Beautiful finish! I enjoy seeing all the lush foliage around it. It looks like Claude Monet’s “Near Honfleur-Snow” outside my window.

    Congratulations on achieving your first finish so early in the year! I like how you have arranged the blocks to balance the shapes and colours. Was there a particular block that you ended up liking the best?

    Well good for you! That’s an amazingly timely finish! Love the mix of CF fabrics, just as I have all along.

  4. It is a good feeling to get the quilt done the same year as the blocks. The all over meander is perfect and I love the scrappy binding.

  5. Oh it turned out fabulous Yvonne! This, and Louise’s guest post at Kat’s reminds me I need to put some of my orphan blocks together for a donation quilt. Isn’t meandering just so relaxing and fast and fun?! And doesn’t it feel fabulous to have a finish already? (speaking from experience here, me, wink)

    First quilt finish in 2021! Yeah – congrats 🙂 I love the scrappy binding! And I think you designed a fun layout for your blocks. xo

  7. Beautiful finish! It has to feel good to wrap up last year’s project so quickly, mine tend to linger, for years.

    Stippling is a good choice for your Old School quilt. The backdrop to your photos looks like you’ve discovered the Garden of Eden – so lush and beautiful!

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
