Best of 2021

Each year since 2015, Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs has encouraged us to look back on our year and share some of our best posts. Her Best of 2021 link party is open, and there are no rules on how you define and share your best posts. This year, I have selected my favorite 5 posts in different categories.

#CelebrateMyQuiltSubmission

#CelebrateMyQuiltSubmission

Favorite Discussion – #CelebrateMyQuiltSubmission

For several years, I had an idea about collectively celebrating our quilt submissions, and this year I kicked off the #CelebrateMyQuiltSubmission hashtag on social media and initiated a discussion here on my blog. I was really pleased with the response to the idea, and I love that people are using it to celebrate all kinds of submissions.

And for full transparency, of my three 2022 QuiltCon Submissions, only was one accepted. I will have a second quilt on display as part of a special exhibit.

Pin Basting Tip

Pin Basting Tip

Favorite Tip – Pin Basting Tip

I am a pin baster (due to chemical sensitives), but I’ve not always been happy with my results. This year I started pinning my batting to my backing outside of the quilt top when I was quilting Pulsar, and I can confidently say that it has improved how flat and pucker free my quilt backings have been. I’m so glad I started doing this!

Favorite Pattern Release – Pulsar

Based on pattern sales, I’d say I’m not alone in being excited about the Pulsar pattern release this year! I love that I was able to offer so many sizes and let’s be honest, I just adore how the cover quilt turned out.

Sesen

Favorite Quilt Finish – Sesen

Maybe a better title would be most anticipated quilt finish! I had originally intended to get this version of Sesen made in June, but other projects and life happened, so I’m glad I was able to get it completed in time to take with me as my workshop sample to QuiltCon in Phoenix.

MQG Retrospective

Biggest Honor – Sunburst at the National Quilt Museum as part of the MQG Retrospective

It was a huge honor to have Sunburst included in the MQG Retrospective exhibit at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky, this year. It was a definite pinch me moment!

I’m going to be honest: I probably could have found a way to make the Pulsar quilt fit into all of these categories, but I held back and only used it twice, haha (it was honestly my favorite quilt finish of the year, generated lots of great discussion, and I was hugely honored it won Best Use of Negative Space at PIQF). I’d love to know if there is something else I shared this year that’s your favorite that I didn’t include! I hope you have a happy and safe New Year’s Eve, and I’ll see you in 2022.

Linking up with Best of 2021.

It’s been fun watching you play with curved piecing this year and explore all the effects you can get with it. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to explore in 2022. Happy New Year!
