After the excitement of getting to share my block in September, I was ready to sew up another block for the Old School Block of the Month. The October block, Courthouse Steps, was shared by Pat Sloan.

Courthouse Steps Block – Old School BOM
I was really inspired by some early versions of the block that were sewn together by quilters following along with the block of the month. I liked the scrappy approach I saw several times, and it was fun selecting the Carolyn Friedlander prints to use this month. Now that the block is sewn, I’m reflecting on how appropriate the colors seem to be for October, haha!

Only two more months to go and then I’ll need to puzzle together a quilt top!

Yvonne, that is a favorite block! As for your colors–they are opalescent and opals are October’s birthstone–totally appropriate! You even included the “fire” at the heart of an opalescent! Great block!!!
I confess this is a block I love. I’m not sure I’ve ever used that lilac-ish CF fabric – I like it and it’s somewhat unexpected.
