Pulsar at PIQF

Oh boy, so I have a few quick stories to share about Pulsar with you today. First let me tell you that this all has a happy (very happy) ending.

I shipped Pulsar via USPS Priority Mail to show at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara on Monday, October 4th. I followed the tracking and it was out for delivery on October 7th, just like it should be. On October 8th, I checked to confirm it was delivered, only to see it had been scanned 3 more times and re-routed but “was still in transit to its final destination”. And then…. no more updates. For days. Over the weekend, I reached out to a point of contact for the show. I suspected that Pulsar had indeed been delivered but just not scanned in, but I thought it best to double check and start an investigation as soon as possible if that were not the case. Thankfully, they were very quick to respond on Monday letting me know that Pulsar had in fact been received. Whew.

Today, I received photos from Karen Maple and Karen Bolan via Instagram messenger of Pulsar hanging at the show. I was so happy it was there. But then I did a double take – wait, it has a ribbon hanging beside it!

Pulsar was awarded the Best Use of Negative Space ribbon in the Modern Competition. Wow! I’m still so tickled to know that Pulsar isn’t lost in the mail that I’m not sure I’m processing this right now.

After spending 7 weeks quilting Pulsar, I knew I didn’t have it in me to remake this. So, more than anything, I’m just utterly delighted to have Karen and Karen (and all the others at PIQF this week) see it. I’m so grateful to know where it is!

Holy Cow. If quilts could talk and tell us where they had been…..Congratulations on that blue ribbon. I’ve loved Pulsar since you first started this quilt. The quilting is spectacular and I can understand why you felt you couldn’t remake it. So happy it turned up in the right place and at the right time.

    Congratulations! Fabulous quilting!

  14. Congratulations on your win! I have had that trouble with a few packages and it is nerve wracking. One was a quilt sent to my grand-niece last Christmas. Again, so glad that it made its way to the show and a ribbon!

A well-deserved reward! That was a lot of work.
I’ve had items shipped USPS with that same “still in transit” problem, and one of them never showed up at all. Luckily it was a purchase and I was sent a replacement. But to have a work of art such as your quilt lost by the USPS would have been tragic. I’m very happy and relieved that it got where it was supposed to go; I would have been broken-hearted for you.
    XXXOOO.
