I can honestly say that I love handwork. I love hand binding quilts. I’ve done a little bit of English Paper Piecing (EPP), but only a few blocks. I don’t think that doing EPP on a deadline would be a great idea for me, but having this one hexie EPP block in the Old School Block of the Month was a nice project to work on for a week.

Hexie Block Finishing – Machine Applique
That said, when it came time to stitch the hexies to the background, I opted to machine applique (top stitch) them in place. After removing all the papers, I took my time to iron all the seams on the back of the hexies back down nice and flat. Then I carefully pinned the hexies to the background to mitigate any shifting that might occur while I topstitched.

Old School BOM – January through May Blocks
I guess I’ll be diving right in to make the block just shared on Saturday by Kerry Goulder from Kid Giddy. Might as well get fully caught up since I have all the fabrics and blocks out and about right now.

Hi Yvonne, those hexies turned out wonderful!! I’ve never sewn hexies, yet, but hope to someday. Like you, I enjoy handwork too. Hand stitching binding is relaxing for me, and hand quilting is so peaceful and tranquil. Enough about that, your quilt is going to be a beauty!
Beautiful hexie block. I love how cohesive your 6 blocks look together!
Love the hexies and they do a great job pulling all the colors in to make this sampler work!
