Stash Fabrics - Pulsar Backing (Kona Cotton Nightfall) and Matching Aurifil Thread from Red Rock Threads
Fabric

April Stash Acquisitions

It all started innocently enough (as most things do, right)? I needed to place an order for enough Kona Cotton Nightfall for the backing of Pulsar. I also needed to get more matching Aurifil thread, 2784 (Dark Navy) for the Nightfall for the quilting.

Well, since I was shopping at Stash Fabrics for the Nightfall, I started thinking about what project I’d want to piece next. My plan is to finish the Sesen quilt pattern next, so that meant picking out fabrics for the cover quilt for that pattern, so into my Stash Fabrics shopping cart, a few more fabrics jumped in.

I tend to shop at Stash Fabrics first for Kona Cotton because I know they carry all the Kona Cotton colors.

I will share more about the next version of the Sesen quilt once I get over the hump of quilting and finishing up the Pulsar quilt and pattern!

I found Aurifil 2784 at Red Rock Threads, and I went ahead and used my Kona Cotton swatches and Aurifil color car to color match for the Sesen quilt. I have a lot of Aurifil 2000 (Light Sand) on hand that will work for Kona Natural, and I selected 2277 (Light Orange Red), 1133 (Bright Orange) for Kumquat, and 2145 (Yellow Orange) for Papaya.

A bit later, I decided to pick up a new FQ bundle of Carolyn Friedlander prints from Sewtopia to give me plenty of options for the Old School BOM through the end of the year.

And somehow this yard of Stellar Moon Grid in Lupine by Rashida Coleman Hale leapt into my cart at the same time. When I need a good print in this colorway, I always think of Rashida’s prints, so it’s nice to add this to my stash.

Fabricate Boulder - Kona White, Enchanted, Jade Green, Navy

And last but not least, I picked up 6 yards of Kona White, 5 yards of both Kona Enchanted and Jade Green, and 4 yards of Kona Navy from Fabricate Boulder. Fabricate Boulder had a one day special sale where 100% of the sales from that day went to the families of the Boulder, CO, grocery store shooting victims and efforts to stop gun violence. In support, I decided that picking up enough fabric for a few quilt backings and having some essentials (for me, Kona White and Navy) on hand were good ideas.

I definitely have plenty on hand to keep me busy and having quilting fun for years ahead, but there really is nothing like a new grouping of fabric and the fun and promise they hold, is there?

  1. Oh, that Sesen grouping is pretty, as well as the rest of your choices. I like shopping at Stash Fabrics as well. I like that their online swatches are larger and easier to see, and I think the colors are pretty true. You’ve mentioned a few new places to me, so I’ll have to check them out.

I know exactly the kind of rabbit hole one can go down at Stash Fabrics … having done the exact same thing! What a beautiful selection, and that Carolyn Friedlander collection is just scrumptious!

Such a pretty selection of fabric and thread. I find there are 2 or 3 times of the year when I am susceptible to purchasing fabric and thread….as if I need any more of either. But I think you are more thoughtful about your purchases than I am. I look forward to seeing some future projects with these.

  4. It is good to have things you need and such great bundles. I succumbed to a 4.99/yd sale of Dimples which is great for bindings or helping with a pieced backing. They are all lovely purchases and wonderful projects will result from these – in the fullness of time.

Love the Carolyn fabric! Glad you had some happy packages arrive.

  6. Great fabric and thread additions to your stash! Stocking up on Kona cotton and Aurifil thread is always a good thing.

“Just jumped in”, huh. I KNOW THE FEELING!!! Nothing like some fresh patterns and colors!

Beautiful stash additions for sure! You really can’t go wrong with CF and solids – and of course that unique pink! And yes, a little new definitely jumpstarts the creating again.

  9. You nailed it with your phrase of nothing like the fun and promise of new fabric. I love that 100% WOW went to the victims’ families and gun violence eradication. Small businesses rock. Beautiful purchases all. Happy creating!

Your photographs are so lovely it’s all I can do to stop myself heading straight for an online fabric shop!
