Last summer, as a former Summer Sampler block designer, I was honored to contribute a block to the Summer Sampler Black Lives Matter quilt. The quilt is now listed on eBay for Charity, and all proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Social Justice Sewing Academy.
The Auction is live until 11am (Mountain), March 1, 2021. The quilt measures 72” x 72”. The quilt blocks were pieced by 18 designers and was assembled by Katie Blakesly @swimbikequilt. Abby Latimer @latimerlanequilts donated the beautiful long arm quilting, and Annette @annettebc bound it. Please share with your friends and family, and bid on the quilt!
Founded in 2017, the Social Justice Sewing Academy (SJSA) is a youth education program that bridges artistic expression with activism to advocate for social justice. Through a series of hands-on workshops in schools, prisons and community centers across the country, SJSA empowers youth to use textile art as a vehicle for personal transformation and community cohesion and become agents of social change.
While you are learning more about SJSA, be sure to download and read the Anti-Racist guidebook that was compiles by SJAS volunteers.
