As I mentioned on Monday, I am taking a bit of a detour so that I can wrap up a long term WIP. It has been a little over a year and a half since I pieced the Modern Plus Sampler quilt top. The Modern Plus Sampler was a quilt along hosted by my friends Cheryl (Meadow Mist Designs) and Paige (Quilted Blooms) and was in celebration of their book, Modern Plus Signs. Finishing the quilt was one of my 2020 goals, and this week I decided it was time to get the quilt out of the project bin and assess how to get it completed.

Modern Plus Sampler Fabric Selection
The first thing I needed to do was go back and look at the fabric I had left after piecing the quilt top to figure out what to use for backing and binding. Top to bottom, I had used Kaffe Fassett Shot Cotton in Pudding, Kona Cotton in Cerise, Kona Cotton in Hibiscus, Kona Cotton in Silver, Kona Cotton in Pink, and Kona Cotton in Pomegranate. I had plenty of the Pudding shot cotton to use for the backing, so everything else got put back into my stash.

Modern Plus Sampler – Binding
As for the binding, I had picked up a fun print to use for the binding from Bunny’s Designs when I was in Austin in 2019. I thought it would a be a nice color match and juxtaposition to the all solid quilt top.

Modern Plus Sampler – Basted
With the binding made and quilt basted, I am hoping for a productive weekend quilting. I have 50wt Aurifil 5003 (Wine) which looks to be a good match for the Pudding shot cotton and I’m planning on an all over free motion quilted motif (probably a stipple) for the quilting.
How are your 2020 goals going? What are you going to be working on this weekend?
Looks like you are well on your way to another finish. Happy quilting this weekend
You had me at binding! ha! It’s just so pretty!
Oh, that binding is so fun! I can’t wait to see how you quilt this. A quiet weekend here, so I’m sure there will be sewing.
Jen,
Love your binding choice and the fact you are working on a UFO/WIP. It must be in the air this time of year. Organize sewing rooms, working on UFO’s /WIP’s for the year. Have fun, stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
Love the binding!
What a gorgeous quilt! Wow, I love those colors, and that binding is stunning, the print is such a special touch. I thought you had a longarm? Is there a reason you’re basting for it?
Just like the others who’ve commented, I LOVE colorful bindings. They add so much to a quilt yet complement it without taking away from a clean modern design. This one is GORGEOUS.
ohhhh that is just a wonderful quilt… I love that binding fabric you have!!! hope you had a productive weekend quilting away
