I love making mini mini quilts, and I especially enjoy getting to make them when they are for my Patrons. I’ve had a few patrons unlock their mini mini quilt rewards recently, so I’ve had some fun making these tiny quilts. Today I can share one of the recent finishes; I’m still waiting on an international package to be delivered so I can share the others.
It helps me immensely to have just a little bit to go on when I am making a quilt for someone. The starting point for this was a request for “rainbow”. I had just happened to pick up a few yards of the striped fabric from Kristy from Quiet Play‘s introductory fabric line, Create, with Riley Blake, so I knew I’d be using that for the binding. Searching my pattern files, I also found Kristy’s Simplified Feather, a paper pieced pattern, and I printed it off at 50% scale.
Once I knew what I would be sewing, I could go to my stash to pick out a rainbow to use. I liked that the Simplified Feather pattern had 7 segments on either side of the feather which allowed me to go a bit beyond purple.
I used a solid white for the background, and my Patron was able to get a much better photograph of the mini mini quilt when it arrived than the photo I took before I shipped it. Note to self: look at photos before shipping next time!
The striped print was too good not to used for the back of the mini mini as well. It finished at 5″ square, and I quilted it simply with 50wt Aurifil 2024 (White) by outlining the feather and then adding a few additional vertical lines.
