Thanks to the wonderful editing eyes of Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs, I am ready to release the Mum’s Garden digital quilt pattern today!
Inspired by the Kona Cotton colors Burgundy, Spice, Yarrow, and Bone, I found a photograph of fall mums which was a great spring board for the design. Explore your own color palette with the included coloring pages and have fun sewing curves to make your own baby or lap size quilt.

Last week, I asked my social media followers what colors they would want to see mocked up for Mum’s Garden, and a Forest & River colorway was suggested, using 3 greens and a blue. It has such a different, calming feeling!

And inspired by the brilliant colors of a hibiscus, I thought this was a vibrant and fun option, too!

The baby size quilt is suitable for a confident beginner and I consider the lap size version for intermediate sewers due to the smaller curved piecing required. By starting with the larger curved piecing for the center, Mum’s Garden could the the perfect skill builder to hone your curved piecing technique. Mum’s Garden uses 4 fabrics (a background fabric with 3 focal fabrics) to create a striking modern design. If you are new to sewing curves, the gentle 6″ finished Drunkard’s Path blocks that make the baby quilt or central motif in the lap quilt will help quickly build your confidence. After piecing Mum’s Garden, I was hooked on curves!
The baby quilt requires the use of 6″ finished drunkard’s path templates, and the lap size quilt requires the use of 6″ finished and 3″ finished drunkard’s path templates. Paper templates are included in the pattern, but you may use any standard drunkard’s path templates (I personally use templates from Jen Carlton-Bailly).
To celebrate the Mum’s Garden pattern release, it is on sale through Sunday, August 23rd, so be sure to pick up your copy today!
