2020 Finished Quilts

Curve Star and Inset Curve Star Mini Quilt

This week I was able to turn my test block for the Inset Curve Star tutorial into a finished mini quilt. The mini quilt uses curve star blocks, square in a square blocks, and an inset curve star. With the test block finished as a mini quilt, I have one long term WIP that needs to be quilted, but I suspect I might be busy with a few more upcoming projects. I’m still hopeful I will have the long term WIP complete before the end of the year.

The mini quilt finishes at 24 1/4″ square after quilting and binding.

I tried yet another small quilting variation for the curve star blocks in this mini quilt; this time I quilted a second 1″ echo in the center of the star. I still think my favorite quilted option is the star burst from the center of the Inset Curve Star mini quilt I finished over the weekend, but it’s always good to test out options!

The metallic pearl bracelet print is so fun, and I get distracted by it every time I walk by. For the square in a square blocks, I quilted with a favorite linear swirl pattern.

It’s really obvious that I used matching thread colors for the front of the quilt when looking at the back. I used 50wt Aurifil 2692 (Black) and 2115 (Lemon).

The back is pieced from two different yellow solids, and I used up the last of the metallic pearl bracelet print for the binding.

I’m already smitten with my next project: using the cut leftovers from the Sky Full of Stars quilt. I look forward to sharing where that is heading with you soon!

  1. You have really nice “left overs”. The square in a square blocks are a nice contrast to the star blocks. Congrats on another fun and dramatic finish.

  2. Another fun mini quilt, Yvonne. The quilting creates so much movement and compliments the design very well.

    Love the quilting you’ve done.

Great little quilt! I can see why it would catch your eye when you walk by. The twisted designs are so eye-catching too and easy to do once you know the ‘secret’. 😉

Oooooh! Another one with differing thread colors on the back! I’ll bet this idea is going to start catching on big-time. I know I’m going to be doing it at some point.

Beautiful quilting! So…when you do your quilting, are you thinking about the back and the front or is it a happy accident? All I can say is ‘WOW’!

  7. I’ve certainly enjoyed your recent curved piecing, Yvonne. Love the quilting!

  8. This is beautiful quilting. Did you do it with rulers and templates?

This quilt is so striking. I really like the quilting in the squares. I’ve done it in classes, but have yet to use it on a real quilt.

  10. This version is fun. I like the way you quilted the squares and the new pattern on the back is fun. I do think I prefer the star too in the center, but options are always a good thing.

Another great finish. I’ve never seen metallic pearl bracelets….oooh…..
