Sky Full of Stars {Quilting}

I don’t know about anyone else, but I was really busy at the end of July. I was really glad at the end of last week when I was able to take a deep breath, start working on writing up a pattern for Mum’s Garden, and dive into quilting Sky Full of Stars.

I took a quick photo of the quilt top with my iPad and imported it into Procreate. I like to use Procreate to help me envision quilting motifs, and for Sky Full of Stars, to keep the piecing the focal point, I decided to go with some really simple walking foot echo quilting.

As I was preparing to baste the quilt together, I thankfully remembered to stop and mark reference lines with my Hera marker before pinning the quilt backing, batting, and top together. I like to have my quilt top layered on my batting when marking with the Hera marker so that the line stands out a bit more when I take the quilt to my sewing machine.

As you can see above, I only *just* remembered to mark my lines prior to basting. Since getting the quilt basted and starting quilting, I have found a few more reference lines that I have needed to mark, so it’s not the end of the world to baste and then mark. Without pins in the quilt top it is just a bit easier to do, though.

Because I am using matching thread, the best view of my quilting progress can be seen on the back of the quilt, which is Kona Cotton in Jungle. The spacing is 1″, and I have to admit that this might be one of the least densely quilted finishes I have made in a long time. With just over a quarter of the quilting complete, I’m hoping to have a finish to share with you later this week!

    I like marking with my Hera marker before basting also. I like the quilting and can’t wait to see it finished.

    Yvonne, I have the die cut, which I bought to go with the range of Carolyn Friedlander fabric , and for ever such a long time, I have sat on it. This is the push I need to do it. Heaven knows, I have all the time in the world. How can I be so busy when in the house all day?

    Both the dark blue with the Friedlander prints, and the quilting are wonderful.

    I love my Hera market too. (I just need to find it.) Your quilting on this is really pretty.
