Push-Pull Quilt Along - Queen Size Finish
2020 Finished Quilts, quilt along

Push-Pull QAL {Queen Size Finish}

I sewed along with the Push-Pull Quilt Along in order to make a new queen size quilt for our bed at home. Today, I’m happy to finally be able to share the finish and how the queen size quilt drapes on the mattress.

I purposefully designed the quilt to have the focal design elements seeming to fall off the edge of the bed. Quilts and covers are nothing if not pushed or pulled all night, right (or is that just in my house)?? The pattern offers 3 suggestions for how to center the pieced elements differently if this placement feels too askew.

Push-Pull Queen Size - Husband Imprint

Push-Pull Queen Size – Husband Imprint

My husband was a good sport and gamely offered to try to hold up the large quilt outside for a photograph, but even in a light breeze a quilt this size is hard to handle. In the end I got a fun imprint photo and we decided it was better to photograph it inside!

I used a wide quilt backing from BackSide Fabrics **use discount code backsidejetgirl1920 for 15% off through 6/30/20** and had my queen size quilt quilted by Melissa from Sew Shabby Quilting using the Water Drops pantograph.

I used extra background fabric from the quilt top to create a bed skirt, and I am tickled to have this quilt in use on my bed. I was able to take the wedding quilt I made for my husband off the bed as after 16 1/2 years of constant use, it’s starting to tatter and come apart. I think I will eventually trim down the size of the older quilt so that we can use it as a picnic quilt.

I will be linking up with the Push-Pull Quilt Along Final Linkup; although I won’t be eligible for any of the prizes, it will be fun to see it with all the other finishes! Also linking up with TGIFF hosted by Anja Quilts and Michelle From Bolt to Beauty‘s Beauty Pageant 85.

Beautiful quilt! I like the husband imprint photo.

Wowzers, what a beauty! And I love the circle quilting motif – perfection, my friend!

I truly love this quilt but we have a King size bed. Would I just increase all the parts? In the past people said to just add borders but I don’t want to do that to this quilt. What would you do? Both quilts shown were perfection. The quilting on the maroon/wine color one could see. I agree that soft curves is the way to quilt these. I was taught in the last century the “rule” was that if you made a strong linear quilt x you must use a soft curves. I no longer feel it was a rule cut on stone but a good guideline. As your faithfull servant I await your important answer! I am speaking of the blue quilt where the design falls over the edge of the bed.
I await your answer. Thanks again, Robin

Beautiful quilt! The way the design hangs off the bed makes it more interesting. And wow, I love that quilting pattern, wish I could do it in free-motion.

I too like the ‘fall off the edges’ look. Looks good on the bed and would look good hanging in a show.

I love the way your quilt turned out. The color is beautiful, the texture of the quilting is great and the matching dust ruffle really complements the whole setting. It has been a fun Quilt-Along and I look forward to another one some day.

Wow. Those blues and your design paired to make quilt the striking quilt. Boy I bet that feels good to have that done and be using it! I really like the quilting design you chose for it too.

This is absolutely stunning Yvonne! I love the colours and the way the design appears to “fall off” the bed is just perfect. I’m definitely making a queen size soon!

the quilting in this quilt is outstanding as always . I am sure your husband’s arms were aching even after a few minutes of holding up a king size quilt. I laughed about the push me, pull me aspect of quilt use. These days, I am either kicking the quilt off completely. Totally conversely, when I am not kicking the quilt up, I like it pulled right up under my chin. Not over my face, just tucked in around my chin.

I love how this quilt looks on a bed. What an amazing design.

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
