My sister- and brother-in-law contacted me a few weeks ago about the possibility of getting me to make them a cozy for their French press. The back story being that they have a large selection of Fiestaware and I have previously made them bright, colorful placemats and a tea cozy. Now that they are working from home during the week due to the coronavirus, they were hoping to keep their coffee warmer longer during the morning.
Full disclosure: I don’t drink coffee, so while I was more than happy to create something for them, we had to FaceTime so I could see what the French press looked like, how it operated, talk them through getting me some measurements, and shop my stash!
I opted to create a drawstring like center at the top of the cozy to allow the handle of the press to be fully extended until ready to be depressed (if it’s coffee, is it still called steeping??). The rounded shape was easier to work with than I feared, but anything much smaller than this 16″ diameter would start to be pretty tricky to work with. Overall, it came together in a similar method to my tea cozy tutorial in that I quilted both the inside and outside panels prior to assembly.
Would anyone be interested in a tutorial on how I put this together? No promises on being able to make the tutorial quickly, but I suspect my father-in-law would enjoy getting a cozy for his French press now that he has likely seen this one in use at his daughter’s house!
