The Modern Quilt Guild is organizing weekly content to be delivered to its members in the form of 2 webinars and a PDF download each week in what they are calling the #MQGKeepCalmandSewOn series. On Thursday from 1-2pm Central, I will be doing a live webinar about installing and using Inkscape, a free and open source professional vector graphic editor for Linux, Windows, and macOS.
Vector images can be exported to other programs or sent to a graphic designer, magazine editor, etc. in high resolution, loss-less file formats. Inkscape can export PNG images or the entire file can be saved in a PDF or EPS file format. I’ll be going through basic setup, how to use the standard tools, and important to know details for quilters like how to import and use fabric swatches.
Do you have any questions about Inkscape? Be sure to leave them as a comment below and I’ll do my best to address your questions!
To register for this week’s webinar, sign into your MQG account and visit the Events page. If you can’t make it to the live share, it will be recorded and uploaded to the MQG site (along with an additional PDF I created with exercises!).
UPDATE: The webinar is now available on the MQG website. Be sure to log in and then visit: https://community.themodernquiltguild.com/resources/quilt-pattern-design-inkscape
I love Inkscape for quilt design! Currently playing with quite an intricate FPP design in it. 🙂
I won’t be on the live version, but I look forward to this (maybe the second installment). I really struggle with inkscape, and need to understand it better.
all looks very interesting. Generally I cut and see what happens, so to speak but look forward to taking a look
I would love to attend this but the Events page is blank, and yes, I did login!
The only ink I use is in a pen! I just draw things out on graph paper if I need to, but I do appreciate what the program can do. You are so technologically clever.
Yvonne, your MQG webinar was super! Thanks for the time and effort you put into educating us on Inkscape. I’ve had Inkscape downloaded to my computer for over a year from when i needed it for a different kind of design project. I didn’t realize it could be so very useful as a quilt design medium! Your enthusiasm for quilt design with this software has infected me too! You go, Girl
I tuned in for 5 minutes and then I had to leave. It was at 3:00 p.m. my time, so was still at work. I hope to watch it once it’s posted to the website. Thanks for hosting it.
