It is my pleasure today to share about a book written by my two good friends Daisy Aschehoug (@warmfolk) and Heather Black (@quiltachusetts): Quilt Modern Curves & Bold Stripes (affiliate link). As you might surmise from the title, each quilt pattern within the book combines curved piecing and striped elements. I have to admit that while I find the prospect of matching striped lines within pieced curves daunting, I’m definitely eager to learn from curve masters like Daisy and Heather.

Table of Contents
The beautifully arranged table of contents gives you a stunning overview of the projects within the book. I am drawn to Lys (because the combination of stripes and curves seem very achievable at my current level of piecing proficiency) and Sunset Horizons (which is beautiful but intimidating to me at the same time).

Sunset Horizons
There are 15 designs and a total of 24 quilts in the book, including the duplicates with pieced or printed stripes. I definitely appreciate that the authors included quilt options for using printed stripe fabrics! Have you pieced curves before? How about lining up stripes with curved piecing?

I can see why these two quilts caught your eye, i haven’t tried any curved or round piecing since the double wedding that I never finished due to the curves.
I love these two quilters! Their work is amazing and I’d love their book as inspiration to try more curved piecing.
I’m loving the designs in the book! What a great combination – stripes and curves!
What an amazing idea!! Who would have thought to put curves and strips together!? The book looks great!
I watch both of these ladies on IG. They bring such beautiful pieces to my feed.
I just bought a new curves ruler Friday, and would love to win this book.
Looks like a great book. I’ve never tried to do anything like this.
I’ve done curves just once or twice, never having to make stripes match! These are beautiful quilts!
I have pieced curves before, and loved it. However, I have not pieced stripes into curves. I would love to try to do it.
i pieced curves for Sharon Hollanders ballon quilt, i thought it would be really hard, but in the end, i enjoyed doing it. i used solid colors though, don’t know how i would have gone about lining up the stripes……thank you for the giveaway
I piece curves, and have a stash stripes waiting to create with!
I saw this book and wash not sure I am ready for curves so I put it on a wish list. I’d love to win it. It definitely would inspire me to try something out of my comfort zone.
I have done curved piecing but have not matched stripes. These designs are intriguing.
I would love to have this book! I love piecing curves but have little experience with stripes and curves. I wouldn’t be opposed to learning!
I like to sew circles, and would love getting this book
I love piecing curves, this is a beautiful book.
I am somewhat intimidated by curves, but I also sew clothes so maybe it won’t be bad with that experience? I do love the combination of the stripes with the curves in this book!
Curves are just more fun! I do love piecing a good curve. I have tried lining up some stripes on curved piecing and it was just okay 🙂 Practice will help!
I agree matching stripes on a curve seems insanely frustrating. The quilts, however, are beautiful and worth the effort.
I love curves, but they can be daunting sometimes. This book is going to be great help, I just know. Plus I love all of the designs. Thanks for the chance to win.
I have pieced curves before but not with stripes. I should challenge myself to that someday!
The previews of these bold and colorful quilts are amazing. One way or another, I’m getting this book! 🙂
Love the designs in this book. There’s something about modern quilting I find so appealing.
I’ve sewn curves before but never combined with stripes…looks like a wonderful challenge!
Love the circles in this book!
I took a class with Becky Goldsmith on piecing curves. Not with stripes though. Yikes! Thanks for the giveaway.
I have been quilting for years. Curved elements intrigue me. I can see a Batik coming out of this book! (At least from my sewing area).
Such beautiful pictures. I’ve pieced in curves (not really well) but haven’t tried it with stripes. That would be a real challenge. Thanks for the review and the opportunity.
I tend to shy away from curves. This book looks fascinating and something I would like to try.
This book looks amazing! I have been on a curves adventure lately so perfect timing for some more inspiration!
I love stripes and I really like this quilt. I have done curve piecing and it isn’t too bad .. I like the idea of curves and stripes. Thanks for sharing.
I have not worked with curves before. I am seeing a lot lately. Very interested
These quilts are amazing. The last time I tried curved piecing was a drunkards path quilt that I did not finish, but I did start drinking;)
I have to say I am scared of sewing curves…. even if the projects in this book look beautiful
I have seen curves before, but not with stripes! Would like to try that challenge!
I have seen curves, but not with stripes. I love being challenged!
The modern quilts are amazing…a totally new approach for me!
The designs in this book look amazing! I have sewn curves before but have not lined them up with stripes.
It’s always been in the back of my mind to try curves. I have always liked the look.
I have tried Improv curved piecing but need to learn structured curved piecing because if the design potential it offers. The quilts your friends created are graphically striking!
I really need help with curves!
I have tried improv curves but definitely see the design potential of structured curved piecing. The quilts in this book are so striking…I think I can, I think I can!
I have pieced with curves but not with strips.
I have not pieced with curves or stripes (I did take a class on Drunkard’s Path blocks but did not complete a project–would like to try it again)
I have some experience with curves but not strips!
Using stripes with curves is a great idea and the pics of the quilts are so neat, especially the whole circles I’ve decided that this year I’m going to piece more curves, angles, and hexis than squares and half square triangles.
I have made a cushion with curved pieces and I know I need to learn a LOT more!! And stripes in the curved mix?!?! Sounds challenging!
I have pieced stripes … and pieced curves … but I don’t remember ever piecing curves made with stripes or matching the stripes for curved piecing. A new bar to surpass. 🙂
Linda
Getting more comfortable with curved piecing is my goal for 2020. This book may be just what I need!
Something new to master for sure. Can’t wait to give it a try. Thanks for a great giveaway.
