My good friend Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs is hosting the Best of 2019 link party. This is the 5th year she’s hosted the year end wrap up, and more than any other year I’m looking forward to reading about everyone’s year because I missed a lot of online activity from April through September so getting a summary sounds like a wonderful catch up to me!
Most Popular Post – Uneven Log Cabin Block Tutorial
Many of my more popular posts for the year and historically for my blog are my tutorials. The uneven log cabin block tutorial is based on a quilt I made in 2011 and the block finishes at 11″ square (unfinished the block measures 11 1/2″ square). There are lots of fun ways to combine the blocks once they are pieced. The example in the lower right above is for a 44″ square finished quilt and requires 16 blocks.
Most Popular Quilt Pattern Release – Mirage
2019 was a really busy pattern release year for me, but the most popular individual pattern release was for Mirage, which was originally included in the Quilter’s Planner. Mirage uses 6 fat quarters and background yardage to create a stunning modern quilt. The cover quilt color palette was inspired by desert mirage hues where sand and sky blend and blur. The expanded pattern includes instructions for making your own version of the quilt in 5 sizes: baby, lap, large lap, twin, and queen.
My Favorite Finish of 2019 – Stone Sheep Mini Quilt
I made a lot of special quilts this year, but my personal favorite finish of the year is the Stone Sheep Mini Quilt. It now proudly hangs in our living room beside the inspiration photograph taken by my husband on our 5 month adventure to the arctic this summer.
Most Popular Post About Traveling – Quilting in Wabi-Sabi Overland
Not only did my husband and I have the trip of a lifetime this spring/summer/fall by taking 5 months to travel to the Arctic Ocean (twice) and back, but I quilted and was creative along the way! I think everyone was curious about how I was able to work in the 75 square foot space, and the honest truth of the matter is that my husband was very patient and accommodating and allowed me to take over every available surface!
Favorite Collaboration – Push-Pull Quilt Along Sample Quilt
As my husband and I were starting to head south on our trip, I wanted to come up with a quilting plan for the late fall to help me get re-engaged and excited about quilting when I got home (I was worried the end of the trip might be sad and that I might feel a bit lethargic about what to do). After a short stint of brainstorming, I quickly knew that I wanted to make the Push-Pull quilt, but I thought it would be best to collaborate with a quilter who could bring the design to life and do something special with the quilting that I wouldn’t be able to do. I sent Christine Perrigo an email as soon as I had email access hoping that she might have time to fit me into her fall schedule and I am so happy that she could. I love how the quilt came together and it was the perfect project to get me back into my home studio. For 2020 I’m excited to see all the other versions made during the Push-Pull Quilt Along!
Be sure to hop over to the Best of 2019 link up to join me in catching up on everyone’s year end highlights!
It’s pretty impressive how creative you could be in such a small space. Hope your 2020 is as adventurous.
What a wonderful year you had! I’m super impressed that you were able to keep quilting and blogging on your 5-month adventure. The sheep is stunning and a great “souvenir” of your trip. I also really loved the fox wholecloth quilt you made early in the year for the bed in the truck. Beautiful work all around. Wishing you a wonderful and creative 2020.
I’d say it was a very good year in more ways than one!
I very much enjoyed vicariously living through your adventures in Wabi-Sabi Overland and impressed at how you made it work for your quilting! Can’t wait to see what you create now that you are back in your studio space!
Yvonne, again I have to say your sheep is stunning. I am amazed that thread can do so much! Your creativity is unbelievable. Don’t know how you will top that in 2020, but I’ll be watching.
These are each amazing posts, I am still in love with your Sheep mini quilt. Thanks for linking up!
You did accomplish a lot, even quilting while on vacation. Mirage pattern is definitely on my to-buy list for sure.
Great highlights of your year – all wonderful quilts.
Wonderful highlights of a very interesting year! Loved the blogs on your travels and on quilting while in the Wabi Sabi.
Impressive top five – you already have me with the sheep 🙂
That’s a great list. I have my fabric ready for Push-Pull.
I enjoyed reading about your adventures this year, especially the challenges of quilting while traveling. Sometimes I am away from home for a few months of the year and away from studio space, so I need to make adjustments, too. Wishing you a new year filled with happiness and creativity.
Lovely set of favourites! I do love the way that Push/Pull quilt turned out!! And it was so totally interesting to watch/follow along with your Wabi Sabi (love saying that in my head you know) adventures!
