Most Popular Post – Uneven Log Cabin Block Tutorial
Many of my more popular posts for the year and historically for my blog are my tutorials. The uneven log cabin block tutorial is based on a quilt I made in 2011 and the block finishes at 11″ square (unfinished the block measures 11 1/2″ square). There are lots of fun ways to combine the blocks once they are pieced. The example in the lower right above is for a 44″ square finished quilt and requires 16 blocks.

Most Popular Quilt Pattern Release – Mirage
2019 was a really busy pattern release year for me, but the most popular individual pattern release was for Mirage, which was originally included in the Quilter’s Planner. Mirage uses 6 fat quarters and background yardage to create a stunning modern quilt. The cover quilt color palette was inspired by desert mirage hues where sand and sky blend and blur. The expanded pattern includes instructions for making your own version of the quilt in 5 sizes: baby, lap, large lap, twin, and queen.

My Favorite Finish of 2019 – Stone Sheep Mini Quilt
I made a lot of special quilts this year, but my personal favorite finish of the year is the Stone Sheep Mini Quilt. It now proudly hangs in our living room beside the inspiration photograph taken by my husband on our 5 month adventure to the arctic this summer.

Not only did my husband and I have the trip of a lifetime this spring/summer/fall by taking 5 months to travel to the Arctic Ocean (twice) and back, but I quilted and was creative along the way! I think everyone was curious about how I was able to work in the 75 square foot space, and the honest truth of the matter is that my husband was very patient and accommodating and allowed me to take over every available surface!

Favorite Collaboration – Push-Pull Quilt Along Sample Quilt
As my husband and I were starting to head south on our trip, I wanted to come up with a quilting plan for the late fall to help me get re-engaged and excited about quilting when I got home (I was worried the end of the trip might be sad and that I might feel a bit lethargic about what to do). After a short stint of brainstorming, I quickly knew that I wanted to make the Push-Pull quilt, but I thought it would be best to collaborate with a quilter who could bring the design to life and do something special with the quilting that I wouldn’t be able to do. I sent Christine Perrigo an email as soon as I had email access hoping that she might have time to fit me into her fall schedule and I am so happy that she could. I love how the quilt came together and it was the perfect project to get me back into my home studio. For 2020 I’m excited to see all the other versions made during the Push-Pull Quilt Along!
