Today is my paternal grandmother’s birthday, and my birthday is a bit later this week (on Thursday).

Ocie Jones
Happy Birthday, Grandma!
My grandmother offered to hand quilt a twin-size quilt for me to take to college. The only catch was that I had to make the quilt top. She’s the reason I started quilting, and the first quilt that I made means so much to me, especially because I think it was the final quilt she hand quilted before she passed away.

My First Quilt with Grandma’s Hand Quilting
Note the extra wide binding: I used a 3” single fold binding.
I’ll be turning 40 this week. I haven’t put a lot of thought into the number. In general, I won’t be sad to be saying goodbye to the turbulent decade that was my 30s.
Cheers to another trip around the sun: to love and laughter and joy and quiet time to contemplate. To quilts made and slept under and dreamed about. To celebrate our birthday week, all patterns in my Quilting Jetgirl shop will be on sale for 25% off through Friday, September 6th, 2019, using the coupon code birthdayweek2019.
Happy Birthday to you (and your Grandma), Yvonne! What a treasure you have with that quilt and all the memories. Enjoy the new decade!
I ordered Perspective Quilt pattern twice; I didn’t recieve the download. Please check.
Happy Birthday, Yvonne. You share a birthday with my youngest sister. The memories you share always jog some of my own. I hope you are enjoying your northern trip.
Happy Birthday, Yvonne (and to your grandma)! My maternal grandmother was a quilter AND named Ocie as well. It’s not a common name, so I always think of my grandma when you mention yours. Sending you wishes for a special day later this week.
I hope you have a happy birthday. What a sweet story about the quilt. The butterfly quilting is precious!
Happy belated birthday!
Happy Birthday!! You know, one of my rules once I breached the thirties, was that the birthday person gets a whole month to celebrate their birthday. Life is short: better celebrate. So hope you had a happy birthday, and thanks for another story about Ocie. Such a lovely remembrance.
