Splendid Sampler II – Stars Above

Today marks the start of the final 4 weeks of the official Splendid Sampler 2 sew along, but don’t worry, you can absolutely work from the book and sew along at your own pace at any time after the sew along. Without further ado, here is the block I made this week, Stars Above which was designed by Cath Hall of Wombat Quilts.

I opted to let the star float in a deep navy background of stars and be brighter in my version of the block. I remembered to use basting stitches to check my joins when assembling the block and did adjust things to get this nice outcome.

Be sure to visit The Splendid Sampler website to see the other blocks revealed today. And if you are sewing along, don’t forget to link up (on The Splendid Sampler site) your pieced version of any of the blocks from today’s reveal to be entered to win a prize.

  1. Great block! Sometimes those basting stitches are SO worth it! Have a great day, Mary.

I LIKE this block! Simplicity often “knocks it out of the park”. I’m very fond of those little cat astronauts but the stars on navy pattern is really the best choice here.
    How’s your home-away-from-home coming?

Your Stars Above block is very pretty. I cannot find the pattern on The Splendid Sampler though. It just says page 110 (?)

  4. Those basting stitches are really helpful sometimes, aren’t they? The block looks terrific.

  6. Excellent block! Those basting stitches did their job!

I don’t know what I’d do without basting stitches, they save time and sanity.

Very nice! I love that basting stitched trick to get things matched nicely.

  9. I enjoy seeing your blocks each week. Looking forward to seeing them in your final layout.

  10. Oh what a pretty block! Good call on the basting stitches. That would be so helpful with this fussy block. Outcome is worth it!!

  11. Hmmm…. I have never basted a block together but of course, it would help!! I don’t do a whole lot of points like this but I will tuck it into the back of my mind for some day. Hope the class in Los Osos was fun. That is a gorgeous area. Did you get to check out the surrounding areas at all??

  12. a nice block! I don’t use basted stitched enough! thanks to remember me that tip!!
