Quick Gift: Hexie Coasters

The holidays offer us all kinds of opportunities. Like the last minute sew of a gift to give a hostess, right?

Thankfully I was advised of favorite colors and the 5-minute hexie coaster tutorial by Sharla from Thistle Thicket Studio helped me whip up these coasters that I will gift later today. It didn’t hurt that her favorite color is light blue. 😉

She also likes peach (not pink), and I hope I got close enough with the two prints I used for the backs of the coasters.

The blues for the front are a combination of prints by Carolyn Friedlander, Libs Elliot, Sarah Maxwell, and Studio e Fabrics.

Honestly, it takes me longer to pick the fabrics and cut the hexagon shapes than it does to stitch them together! What is your go-to quick sewing project for these kinds of moments?

Very nice! I tend to go for potholders OR something edible in a handmade bag.

This is great! I needed this post, as I have a few gift-giving needs of this nature–sweet little gifts that don’t convey an obligation for a return gift. Thank you so much!

  3. Those are so cute! What a great idea for a hostess gift.

  5. Thanks for linking this – my husband just bought me some cool wooden hexagon shelves for our family room and I think I shall make some coasters over the holiday weekend to match!

Hello Yvonne, In my opinion you did a marvelous job on choosing fabrics, they are all so pretty. I usually make up coasters, pot holders or an easy bag. Thank you for sharing and have a splendid Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. Perfect gift! I love fabric coasters, especially when it is warm outside and the glass wants to sweat. They will be much appreciated, I am sure.

Hi Yvonne! Well, aren’t these just slicker than snot. (I know, not a pretty picture!) How incredibly cool are these! First of all, hexies are just ALL the craze. And then to make them double-sided with her two favorite colors, well I am 100% she will adore these. Cripes. I do not need one.more.thing.to.add.to.my.list.to.make right now. I will just have to drag myself over to the tutorial, though. Thank you for sharing it!! Happy Happy Friday! I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving. ~smile~ Roseanne

I remember making these a while ago. I love the two colours you chose for your hostess. I’m thinking of making a simple we bag as an exchange gift at Guild.
