Sharon Holland is the designer of the September Aurifil block, Big Apple, and I was excited that I had not yet used red in my rainbow color order progression!
I modified the pattern very slightly to keep the background white to black stripes continuous. Instead of using a 2 1/2″ square for the bottom outer edges of the background behind the apple, I pieced (2) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ background strips to make the 2 1/2″ square.
I love how the scrappy prints are working together with the unifying black and white. Only 3 more months to go!

Your fade to black background works so well with the red apple. Beautiful block!
