Splendid Sampler II – Tulip in Bloom

Today, the Splendid Sampler II Sew Along block design is by Nadra Ridgeway (from ellis & higgs), and her block is called Tulip in Bloom. You can find the pattern and details about the inspiration behind block today on The Splendid Sampler website.

To me, my color palette reads a bit interesting without green or a more believable tulip color for the block, but I’m sure once it gets mixed in with the others that I sew, it won’t stand out as much to me.

Yvonne, I really like your fabric choices. This is going to be a fun block to make.

Hello Yvonne; You are right about your fabric choices being a “bit interesting”. But is that not one of the goals in Modern Quilts? I agree that your choices are interesting, yet, your blues are beautiful and the one with the darker oranges throughout. Plus, without the green, think of that as one of the oddities in nature where the leaves just turn brown for some unknown reason. So, I think you have a fabulously interesting block! Thank you for sharing it with us! Have a splendid day!

  3. I love the fabrics, but yes, it does’t read tulip. I bet it will work just fine and you may see something else in it. Right now I see a Bat Cat….don’t know why.

I love your block and your color selection, and I think that it will look great mixed in. To be honest, the color choices have been what has kept me hesitating (I haven’t made this block yet). I’m going with a monochromatic theme, so trying to figure out what color to use and how to balance/break it up has me a bit stuck. But yours is lovely! I really love Carolyn Friedlander fabrics <3

You are using an interesting color pallet and I like your tulip. Looking forward to seeing the completed quilt.

Maybe you should think of it as a flower as seen in a photo negative? That’s what it reminded me of. Of course I’m not sure how many people these days have seen a photo negative with all the digital cameras in use now.

Your choices are interesting but I think it looks great.

I like the fabric you picked for this project and it will blend when the blocks are all together. I see tulip, cat and bat with this design! It’s really a cute block!

  10. Looks good Yvonne! It’s always fun to see these start to come together, whether it’s RSC blocks or now the Tula City Sampler ones!

It will fit right in with your other blocks.I like that it doesn’t look too tulip like.

  12. I think that this design looks awesome in your colors, not too flower looking but more geometric and very cool.
