Sherri from A Quilting Life is the designer of the July Aurifil block, the Beach Houses block, and while I think her teal colors for the block are perfect for the beach, I already had a teal block in my grouping which is turning into a rainbow. As I was pondering what color to use for the block last week, I went on an evening walk with my husband and enjoyed a spectacularly beautiful sunset in deep pinks and fuchsias, so I decided to use that as my color inspiration for the block.

I do love log cabin blocks, but it turns out it has been a while since I sewed one together.

I chose to vary the pink to fuchsia prints but use the same black and white prints for consistency in this block.

With 5 more blocks to create for the year, I am starting to think about what colors need added (red, a bright orange, purple…).

Hello Yvonne; This is a such a lovely color that you chose to use for the block. I agree with other commenters that your quilt is going to turn out beautiful with the fabrics you are choosing and working/blending with the whites and blacks. Like you, it has been quite a long time since I have made a log cabin block and I have been giving some patterns some serious thoughts. It is so nice to be back online, I have missed your posts and all that you share! We are in no danger from all the fires that are surrounding us at this time, but we are suffering big time from the smoke. So, a whole lot of sewing/quilting is going on! I hope that you have a fantastic day!

Log cabin was the first quilt I ever made and I still have that quilt top – in need of much restoration (I made it in 1977). I really love the block though and this post made me itch to do another one. I love the fuschia in this one and have a feeling this block will really pop when you assemble your quilt. Very pretty!

The black and white is really helping to tie all the different blocks together.
Five more to go? I agree you need a red, purple and bright orange. How about a darker green to balance the rich warm colours (red and fuschia)?
