Minki Kim is the designer of the May Aurifil block, the Santa Barbara Tile Block, and I have to admit I was a bit stumped when I first saw the block. So far I had used black, white, and the suggested color by the designer. But Minki’s suggestion of yellow would make the second yellow block for the year… so I opted to go with chartreuse instead!

I also opted to leave off the embroidered flower and used a fun sewing related novelty print for the wide white piecing instead.

It’s fun to see my collection of blocks growing!

And I am now clearly on track to create my blocks in a rainbow order. I think they will look great together that way.
If you are sewing along, each month one person who links up their pieced block wins a 12 large spool kit, and there are usually 25-30 entries. So don’t forget to link up your version for your chance to win. The versions already shared this month are lovely!
These blocks are all so different but the black and white palette is unifying. And, the pop of color in each block adds so much interest.
a beautiful version!! I have no time for this BOM but blocks are original!
Your finished quilt is going to look amazing!
I am really like how you are pulling all of the blocks together with the black and white and one color.
I think you made perfect choices to make your new block fit in with the others!
These blocks will make an awesome quilt! Each one is quite unique!
Wonderful block. And I think chartreuse is a perfect choice!
These look fantastic!
Outstanding blocks and fabric choices.
Hello Yvonne; Your blocks are great and going to make a fabulous quilt! I am doing a couple of blocks of the month, but not this one. I like the way you changed your block to work with your fabrics. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!
