Welcome to installment 3 of Giveaway Friday! My husband’s maternal grandparents have been a big influence in both of our lives and are part of the inspiration in our consideration for downsizing. His grandparents had a lovely home and extra large yard where they raised 5 children. Upon his grandfather’s retirement, they decided to move into a condo living facility for seniors and begin to downsize. My husband’s grandfather passed away a little over 4 years ago, and I had such a bad panic attack during the 12 hour drive home that I decided to turn in my letter of resignation at my job the next day. Many of you have followed along with my quilting journey since then!

Photos of quilts in magazines inspire me, I love the quilt patterns and fabric colors. After seeing it all I feel the need to create and pet the fabric.
The biggest influence for me was my good friend Robin (I call her my BQF, Best Quilty Friend). She is VERY thorough and when she decided to research a good sewing machine, once she bought one, I just bought the same one! That was years ago and it wasn’t until 2016 that I finally learned how to do FMQ. She taught me how and I’ve been hooked ever since. I started my blog the same year I learned how to quilt and I still very much feel like a rookie, but I am loving the learning. Quilting blogs are my FAVORITE kind of reading!
Easily, my grandmother. . . She was an excellent seamstress and a great quilter. She made quilts to keep everyone warm in unheated bedrooms. I stood at her elbow many an afternoon, wishing that I could sew, as she treadled on her sewing machine. She started me off on my sewing journey even though she didn’t live long enough to see me begin to make things.
My first quilting teacher was a lovely woman named Harriet. She was a local shop owner and was very encouraging when I first got started.
My grandmother was huge influence as far as general sewing, but my local guild had the biggest quilting influence on me and I will be ever grateful to both.
Your special effect quilts continue to amaze me.

Forgot to say my biggest quilting influence was my Mother who taught me to sew–she sewed lots of our clothes as we were growing up and later began quilting when we were “out of the nest”–She had a natural eye for color and enjoyed using scraps.
I can’t say I have a biggest influence. I pretty much taught myself to sew and then I took a few quilting classes to get the basics. I did have a couple of classes from Roberta Horton half a lifetime ago and considered myself lucky.
My biggest influence has been the small groups I’ve been a part of, no matter where in the world I’m at. Plus, blogs and Instagram. Your quilt on the cover is a beauty.
I taught myself by watching Quilty friends on you tube and blogs like yours and others.
My great grandmother is my quilting influence. Unfortunately, I never met her but I do have several of her glorious quilts.
Oooh, that’s a tough one. I’m not sure! Early on, I was super influenced by my quilting friend. Then I started reading blogs, and I started experimenting with different styles and fabrics. I think instagram and blogs still inspire me so much!
Thanks for sharing your magazines. My influences were the early morning quilt shows of the 80’s.
My quilt mentor Jean influenced me the most. She taught me all that I know about Quilting.
Right now I think Angela Walters FMQ is one of my biggest influences
Biggest quilting influences (can’t narrow it to one) – Mary Fons, whose Quilty You Tube videos taught me how to quilt, Suzy Williams, whose designs are just the right combination of simple, sophisticated and modern, and you, whose quilt designs are modern, but light and fresh and with feeling, not stark (they feel good to look at).
