A month or two ago, my sister-in-law contacted me about making a weighted quilt for her youngest daughter (my youngest niece). As I plan to be back visiting family in a few weeks, it makes sense to get the quilt made so I can take it with me!

Weighted Quilt Fabrics
My youngest niece *loves* Maui from Moana, and I found a great fabric that I know she’ll love for the top of the weighted quilt. I’ll be using a piece of coordinating Kona Cream for the back.
My plan is to use muslin and two layers of batting in the middle where I will stitch in the poly beads to give the quilt its weight. I have a vision for how it is going to work… fingers crossed it comes together! I’ll be detailing my process and progress as I go this week.
I have made one weighted blanket. I am looking forward to seeing how you are making yours.
I can’t wait to see yours! I’ve been thinking about making one for N.
I think Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict has made one, if you want a resource. The fabric is great! What a thoughtful, caring project for your niece.
i made one using fleece
I’ve read about weighted over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, like Wendy mentioned. Anxious to hear about the making of yours.
I’ve been curious how one goes about making one of these. Good luck!
This is a new topic for me. I’ve heard about them, but haven’t really read about how to do it. I’ll be very interested to read your blogging about this. What a great gift!
That’s a great print. Good luck.
Why a weighted quilt?
I have never heard of a weighted blanket. Weights hanging around the side like a fringe to tuck the small child into bed springs to mind. How does this work? And I realise now I have get terribly behind too in my disney characters.
Where did you find the Moana fabric?
I am curious to see how this works. Your niece will be so appreciative and the fabric is perfect.
Great fabric! I’ve never made a weighted quilt, so I’ll follow along with interest 🙂
Interesting – I have heard of quilters making them but honestly, I am unsure what the use is?
That is such great fabric for your niece! I still haven’t watched the movie…saw several previews when it was about to come out when I was in the Disney Store in Edmonton with my grandson.
That’s a very fun print.
