Quilt Pattern / Color Survey

I am one of the administrators for the Quilt Pattern Designers Facebook group, which my friend Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs created at the end of her awesome Pattern Writing Blog Series. From time to time, questions come up about choosing fabrics and colors for cover quilts for patterns, and I have been toying with some ideas related to that kind of question recently.

I created a quick 10 question survey, and I would really appreciate about 4 minutes of your time to take the survey. The only question you HAVE to answer to submit is the first question, so feel free to answer only what you are comfortable with. Thank you so much, and as always, feel free to comment below for a quick response (Note: I won’t be able to respond to the anonymous comments in the survey unless you provide contact information within the response).

The survey is embedded in my blog post below, but please visit the Quilt Pattern / Color Survey if you cannot see the survey or have any difficulty with the embedded questions.

  1. all done, that was easy, and the colour questions made me think hard about what I like, and what I see, are they the same or different.

  2. Done. The survey was so easy to do. Thanks! I find it interesting that I am usually drawn to warm colors; however, I preferred the cool photo for your quilt pattern.

This is very interesting. I’ve read the discussion and am wondering if using computer generated quilts on the cover something that is done, or is it always an actual finished quilt. Just curious!

  4. Facetfully says:

Great way to get us thinking!

  5. I weighed in…you’ve got me thinking!

Finished the survey. A couple questions made me pause for a moment and analyze my answer. I realized after answering the questions that I prefer an actual photo of the quilt because it shows the depth of the quilt rather than a flat graphic. That’s just me though. rnwillis@velotech.net

my last comment got lost – the orange is too bold – the green is softly quiet, I hope that makes sense. The orange needs to be toned down and it too would be georgous

Done. I enjoy surveys that make me think a little! I like both warm and cool colors almost equally, and I also like both brights and neutrals. It’s all about the composition that determines whether I will be attracted to a pattern cover. For example, I usually hate brown, but awhile ago I saw Luna Lovequilts make a brown, teal, and mustard yellow quilt and I was in love with the composition!

  9. Survey done. Great questions. I think you’ll be able to figure out which answers were mine. ☺

I completed the survey. Also added a few suggestion questions. I hope all the results will help you.

  11. Sarah says:

This was a well thought out survey, thanks for asking!

It will be interesting to learn your survey results. I hope you will share with us.

I’m super curious to know what your results are! I had a very strong preference for the green cover, due to color alone. So as much as I’d like to say that cover color doesn’t impact me, it probably does — even unconsciously. In a store, I’d be much more likely to pick up the green cover than the orange one.

  14. Kate says:

If I’m buying a pattern it’s usually because I can see it made in fabrics I have at home. I don’t tend to focus much on the colors/fabric used to make the cover quilt.

  15. Lea says:

I enjoyed your survey. It was easy to answer and well thought out on your part.

Also I’m with Kate as far as the colors on the cover don’t make a difference to me. I can always imagine clearly the quilt in other colors.

I really appreciate the time and thought you take to comment, and I look forward to conversing with you. :)
